this a fair deal. I do get a wee bit more but when you been around as long as a Triceraptos you kinda get "special" treatment.

1. use amp to power sub and front door speakers (along with the tweeter).
2. use HU to power 5 way coax rear speakers

From what I understand of audio, the quality of output finally depends on the kind of input there is in the first place. So if I plan to go for a new ICE install in my SX4 Zxi, would it make any sense to retain the stock Nippon unit?

Will there be any sense in getting a fantabulous system only to have the output spoiled by the HU? Or am I missing something here?

Reading that made me wonder how many people spends heaps on their setup, then use it to play highly-compressed MP3 files!

You are right no the spot sir. But ever thing comes down what do you require and how much you can spend. as there is virtually no limit to spend on car audio.

I agree to you sir. I myself have a very nice setup in my car. But major times I play the MP3 but at 320 Kbps on a Ipod when in traffice due to convenience it offers to me but I really enjoy it when I listen a Audio CD on it when it is park in a quite place. So it depends on situations.

I use Mp3 a lot in fact when I am not driving (80-90% of my time in a car) I listen to an ipod with my Beyer 880s.

I do recognise that Mp3 is a compromise and that a lossless format or better still CDA would be nicer but with my ipod i can carry my entire collection in my car (I have one ipod for each car) and not worry about getting the CDs from home.

agreed but...the biggest sacrifices made by car manufacturers are in the speakers so in that sense a speaker upgrade followed by the addition of amplfier(s) and/or a sub will go a long way even with your present HU.

Believe me, the music all around the car is just too good to listen to and I can vouch that without inputs from TBHP, would have installed those red colored poor ones!

BTW, there was no need to cut the metal to fix the 6x9 in my NHC Gxi; Sound Factor in Bangalore installed them with just a spacer. (I checked in a NHC VTEC which also came for a small install; that car had a 6 incher too with the same spacer).

One thing that I wasn't (and still am not) sure is whether I got a good deal. I just got a little over 10% OFF on MRP for both the set of speakers; but the install was FREE of cost. (I just tipped the installers. Anyone will do it seeing their professionalism.)
Well done babu. Enjoy your music.

I agree with Navin, to an extent. I'd upgrade the speakers first. Yes, the quality of the HU will make a difference to the music coming out, but if I had to choose, speakers first, then amplifiers (If the HU had the right pre outs) and then HU.

when I finally get around to buying my proposed Blaupunkt, it will be my first car audio system capable of playing MP3 as well as CD, so it will be interesting to see what I can comfortably listen to. I have no wish to carry my entire music collection around anyway; for a start I could not be bothered to process it on the PC. The few favourites of the week will do me fine.

I will certainly use compression for spoken-word, eg radio plays, maybe enough to get 1.5 hours on a CD.

That is so true, even i wonder that at times, whenever i go to the auto shops and see people getting their "test-cds" along..and it turns out that they have mp3s stored on them..As navin has pointed out, playing 320kbps MP3s does help, but i doubt many people know that there are different sample rates for MP3s...plus...i dont think one gets to choose the samplerate while downloading?

Can I request the Gurus for a small tutorial on how MDF spacer rings should be made & finished aesthetically? A few links will also be adequate. I am looking to install 6.5" woofers in the front doors of my Santro.
Thanks in advance.

I am thinking of picking the Clarion FB276BT from S'pore. Getting a quote for about INR 8700 with B&W. Which I think is a good price for it considering that it comes with a integrated bluetooth module and a separate mic which allows you to use your phone through the ICE. It suits my use too as I will be using only my iPod to play music apart from using the tuner for FM. I have a couple of concerns on which I need your expertise and help
- in the specs it just mentions 2V/2 Channel pre-out.
- does this mean that I get only one pre-out?
- if that is the case then is this enough for me to have a good ICE Setup with compos in the front and SUB powered by an AMP (Considering I have a Bolero and about 90% of the times it going to be just the front seats which are going to be occupied. It doesnt make any sense in having speakers on the back)
- Can a good system be suggested; budget 15K for amp, compos and sub
- I listen to pretty much any kind of music; I prefer a clean sounding system nothing aggressive/very bright and no excessive bass.
- I have read in the previous posts that its good to have a minimum pre-out voltage of 4V. How bad is 2V in comparison? Can it be made up by using a good AMP?
