Hi all. I need your advice in getting a good deal. One of my colleagues is coming from US after "Thanks giving day" when there will be huge discounts in US. Hence I want you to suggest a good pair of 6.5" comps for my palio. Also a good HU with USB(Must) and DVD (not compulsion but preferred) capability.

I have found some and giving those links. You can suggest others also and if possible the link.

Hello to all.

I need some urgent advice from all the knowledgeable ones here to get a pair of good 6.5" Comps for my palio from US. One of my colleagues is coming from US after "Thanks Giving Day" when there will be huge discounts. I want to get a good deal here so please help me in finding one.

I generally listen to indi-pop, some rock (not heavy), and mostly film music, instrumental and classical. So I would like to have have something which either meets these requirements or is above these requirements.

I found some deals online. And would like your help in deciding one. However this is not the final list I have just started searching so you can suggest some. Also a Good HU would be welcome.

Cost I am willing to bear is around $400 for speakers and HU. But don't restrict yourselves if you find a great deal. cost is the last consideration.

Default Subwoofer+amp or just a good 4 ch amp

Hi! this is my first thread on team-bhp. Hope i get a good solution for my ICE.

I have a Palio Stile 1.6 Sport and the current ICE setup is as follows:

HU:Blaupunkt Kingston MP47 (Output:18wRMSx4ch, Max:4x45W)

FRONT:
Blaupunkt THc 132 components (Nominal:50W, Max:150W)

BACK:
Blaupunkt BGx 693 on MDF plank (Nominal:2x45W, Max:2x135W)

I mostly listen to electronic music like trance, house, psychedelic, goa and I'm not happy with my current setup as it feels lacking.

My confusion now is:

1)Are my speakers underpowered? If so, will a good 4ch amp make things better?

2) or should i install a good 12" sub (closed or open?) with a 2ch/mono amp? or will an active sub be better? ( was considering Blaupunkt THb 200A as 210A is not available at TMC electronics, Bangalore where i enquired. Is the 210A available anywhere in Bangalore?)

3)Another thought i have is to exchange my front components for something better and install a 4 ch amp.

My budget is around 10K.

What do you guys suggest?

1) Obviously, they are underpowered. Yes, a good 4-Ch amp gives out better sound
2) Installing a Sub will only give you Bass(low frequencies), they wont improve the Quality of your sound(more precisely your speakers). Powering a Sub with mono has its advantages.
3) This option makes sense (considering that ur front compos give out 50W RMS x 2), but it ll go out of your budget;

Your Head comes with 2 RCA preouts i guess. Powering a rear Coax wont be of much use, Why dont you get a good 2 Ch to power your fronts alone? Probly if you can extend your budget 2-3K, you can get another 2-Ch + Decent Sub

1)I'm more interested in sound quality not the loudness. The quality with my setup is alright and the loudness is adequate, but its lacking in low end. So will a 4ch amp improve low frequency response?

2)what are the advantages with a mono? and how about an active sub?( Any recommendations?)

3) or could get a sub and a 4ch amp to power it and the front?

What would sound the best?

BGx 693 are Triaxials. Why powering the rear wont be of much use?

Go step by step. You are at a stage where you feel a deficiency but cannot pin-point it.

* An amp will now make quite a lot of difference that you can make out. Get a Blaupunkt GT4 Mk2 Spl

* Power the front components and a sub by the amp

* The sub, amp and wiring should cost you about 10-12K

* Continue powering the ovals from the HU. Get the system tuned well

Thanks a lot guys for your quick replies. Your help is very much appreciated.
I wonder whether the HU's amp can be bridged to feed the rear Triaxials?
Which sub do you recommend?

One bridges 2 channels to get one channel with higher power, e.g. for feeding a sub. For the ovals (your triaxials) one needs 2 channels, not one.

There is a way of connecting both the ovals and the sub (tri-mode): the ovals are connected normally to 2 channels, and on top of that the sub is connected on the extremes (bridged). The ovals play stereo, the sub anyhow plays mono. However, unless the amp is capable of taking such current demands, it will be too taxing for the amp, and is not normally recommended.

Get a Blau, JBL, Polk or such SVC sub rated about 200-300W, and put it in a sealed box.

Yes I'm aware that 2 channels are required. What I'm asking is can the 4 channels of the HU's amplifier be bridged to get 2 channels?

This is currently my plan:

1) Power the rear speakers from the HU's amplifier or if I have enough cash remaining at the end, I'd get a 2 channel amplifier for them.

2) Get a polk audio sub db1240 or dB1212 (worried about the cost). Can any one give me the pricing? I'm guessing it should be less than 7K hopefully for db1240.
If polk is too expensive then I'd go for JBL GTO1214 which may be less than 5K.

3) Get a Blaupunkt GTA 4 Special Mk II 800W amplifier, bridge 2 channels to power the sub and remaining 2 channels can power the front. But I'm worried that the max power the front can handle is 150W and the amplifier is 200W per channel. However the amplifier RMS Power is 4x60W @4 Ohm (Front Nominal is 50W). I'm guessing that it can be connected to the front without any problem. Kindly correct me if I'm wrong. Price should be around 6K.

Please feel free to give your comments and suggestions.

1. HU amp channels *cannot* be bridged - you will end up frying the amp if you do

2. Look at the Nominal or RMS power only, *not* the Max power

The rms power of the amp(60W) is 10W more than the speaker(50W). Is this alright?

That is just fine. One doesn't reach peak power levels under normal, even moderately loud, listening conditions. Using the system as a PA or disco system in open air with doors open, will make the system heat up to an extent that the amp trips.
Much before reaching catastrophic conditions, however, the music output will start sounding irritatingly terrible. This should force you to reduce volume, unless you are in no position to care.

Thanks a lot DerAlte for your help I really appreciate it.

One last query: After going through the form extensively, I find that some of the good places to get the system installed are: Auto shop, Koramangala ; EVO, Cambridge layout ; TMC, Jayanagar.
I live in Frazer Town and would prefer someone closer, who quotes reasonable prices.
Any good shops/installers in Frazer Town or nearby?

If you are getting Blau the best place would be Mandovi Motors in Wilson Garden. Otherwise, EVO Cambridge Layout is the nearest for you.

I got a 4 channel amplifier: JBL GT5 S644 installed at EVO by Satya yesterday (job was nicely done). There is considerable difference in the sound now and I'm quite happy with the outcome right now(still not given a good long listen to the new setup).

Planning to get a good 12" sub later(maybe next month).
