Latest Update:

Y'day they delivered the system back after servicing.
It seems that an IC had burnt due to a coin falling inside the deck.

Must be one of the adventures of my son!!

LOL Good for him - he has picked up the habit of saving money very early in life, and would have used the HU as a piggy bank!

My ICE upgrade has been long pending due to financial constraints! :(

So instead of spending in one big bang, have decided to upgrade in stages. Any recommendations for front components? I don't want to any cutting, what ever fits in the stock mounting points is OK.

I checked out JBL at a shop and he quoted ~ 5.5K. But will components fit in the place of the 5.25" space.

Praful,

Without alterations, your choices are very limited since 5.25" is not common in market (I have seen only JBL and Blau when I checked). If you are ready to do some alterations on door pad sacrificing the moulded storage panel, you can fix in any good components.

Praful,

Had checked with the dealer regarding the front components. He has suggested JBL CTO 508C or 500C which is 1k lower than the 508C. This will fit in to the 5.25" sans any alterations. Now I need to find the small chit that he gave me to tell you the price for 508C

Ouch! Would hurt to do any kind of cutting to the door pads!

The 508C is not mentioned on the JBL India website, but I found it here . What is the amount you paid for it?

I'm really sorry; I am not able to find the chit given to me by the installer. I guess it was around 4-4.5k. Hopefully will let you know tomorrow.

I have JBL 608C (components) in the front doors of my car. The door pads were not cut.

The OE front speaker grill (integrated to the map pocket) was trimmed from inside and the 6.25inch speakers went in with ease.

Therefore, stock look is retained (map pocket + oe grill) & 6.25inch speakers.

i have placed the tweeters on the dash board near the side window vents (defogger / heater) because there was some wire routing problem for the Cross-over and Tweeter wires.

Hope this helps.

Thanks for the info. I would really like to retain the stock look as far as possible.

Since there was some amount of cutting involved, are there any rattles at higher volumes?

Did you stick the tweeters with a two sided tape or anything of the like. Was really interested in seeing how people are permanently placing the smaller tweeters and keeping them in that place!

it is quite easy to place them on the dash board than in the OE location near the ORVM adjusters.

See here:

The Palio ICE Thread-dsc00834.jpg

you can actually use the OE tweeter location but the wires (Mid bass, tweeters, PW and Central Locking wires) need to pass through the small connector which may be difficult. But you can always use that option - no harm.

There are no rattles as the plastic bit (OE grill) doesn't come in contact with the mid bass speakers and the entire unit (map pocket + grill) is screwed to the door pad / metal body. speakers are screwed to the mdf spacer which in turn is screwed to the metal body.

planet rocker, I'd move that XO to under the dash. Your left leg might kick it.

Navin Sir,

the installers did stick them under the dash - but i stuck them back near the GLH because i keep on changing the frequency?? (dB thingy). Yes it does foul with the knee at times but i am used to it.

Thanks Sir.
