Default Clarion, Alpine and lightning Audio in my Getz

Hello everyone,

This installation was done on 12th October. But kept postponing till today.

This is how the story started.

June 5th
Manager: You are going to Columbus for 3 months.
Me: What? No. I mean.
Manager: No reasons this time.
Me: I will confirm in a little while?
Manager: Take your time but your going.

So I come back to my desk and tell myself as if he gave me a option. Think for a while, check map for Ohio. I recall one of my good friend stays at Dublin. Itís not far. Not a bad deal huh. Letís go.

All set to leave on July 2nd. Reached Westerville, corporate housing on July 4th 2AM. Took rest whole of Sunday. First week was quite busy. That weekend plan was to go to my friends place.

Friend: come home letís party like old times.
Me: Say what? You want me to come to your place? You mad or what.
Friend: Whatís your problem, your brother has sent you the GPS and company has given you a car and fuel.
Me: Dude its not Bangalore and I donít know any road other then Polaris parkway (My office road).
Friend: Fine, I will pick you Friday night and drop you Sunday night.
Me: What about my colleague who stays with me.
Friend: My house is not that big. Also I donít have so many beds. Why get him when he doesnít drink smoke? He will get bugged, as if we have not faced that situation in Bangalore.
Me: True. Ok see you Friday evening.

Friday evening: We meet after 1.5 years. We comment on each other and how our weekends were in Bangalore. I get in his truck and he plays GNR Ė November rain my favorite song.
Me: Dude this is like Purple haze. I am impressed. Bugger how much did you spend on this.
Friend: Not much. Here itís not that expensive and itís affordable.
Me: Now you have a truck, a good audio system and your office is 20 miles, good roads. your dream of owning a 4*4. You have all you wanted he he he.
Friend: Wish I had all this in Bangalore. Did you upgrade your music system?
Me: No, now the rear speakers are also not working. And with Bangalore traffic I need a good music system. Once I go back I will replace or get it repaired.
Friend: Why donít you pick up a music system from here? Also your system is 4 to 5 years old. No USB bla bla bla
Me: Hmm. Not a bad idea.
Friend: Let me check and tell you what best we can buy.

10 days later.
Friends mail: Pick this stuff man Clarion DXZ785USB, Alpine or kenwood Amplifier, Components and a sub. Rest all we can chose but the HU, donít think any further. Could not find anything close to this at this price range.

First thing came to mind is Team-BHP. I try to search for clarion and find all praises for the HU. Now the next thing is AMP. After searching for some time I find esteem_lovers thread. http://www.team-bhp.com/forum/sound-...-jbl-sony.html

Sent the link to my friend and told him to go through it and let me know what he things.
Friends reply - The Amplifier is the same in his truck and it rocks. Donít think further about AMP. How about a mono Amp. Also the cables are the best and are perfect fit for Getz. I found a good deal for HU, Amplifier, Cables and Damping. What about the components, Sub and Mono Amp?

Me: I will buy the Speakers, components and Sub in Bangalore, as my luggage is growing day by day. Also i don't want another amp. this is too much for getz

Cost Ė
Clarion DXZ785USB - $169
ALPINE MRP-F600 - $224
Dynamat Xtreme Speaker Kit 10415 - $12.99 * 2
Scosche KPA8TT: 1 @ $19.99

Once I came back on October 2nd promptly logged into Team-BHP and did a lot of reading for where to get this installed, decided that I will go to EVO for installation. As I am a novice, I wanted someone who knows what he is doing. Called Satya and told I will come on 7th October for installation, could not get out of office till 8PM, so weekend was the best time, but thought Satya will be busy. So Monday was the ideal day according to me. Called Satya and reached EVO at 3pm.

Told Satya what kind of music I will by playing. He told I can audition JL components and Lightning audio, then decide. Satya told the Rear speakers and Sub he will install the best and I wonít complain.

At around 8 JL audio is on right front door and Lightning audio is on left front door. After listening to few songs I decided that I want Lightning audio.
Reason for not selecting JL audio, rock music did not sound great, that punch was missing. But for slow songs it was great. On Lightning audio both were good.

Everything was packed by 10pm. What a long day it was. At the end I was happy. Now my cars rocking. But Satya had to go out for some work. But he made sure work completes that day.

I dont have the bill. Did remind Satya couple of times. I guess he is busy and i am also busy to go till Indiranagar.
This was what was mentioned on the box.

Components - Lightning Audio Strike S4.66C
Rear speakers - Lightning Audio 83.65.3
Sub - Not sure.

Now let pictures do the talking. Sorry about the long post. Wanted to share, how it started and how it is now.

This was the old Pioneer HU and Sony speakers which were removed.

Great photos. Well documented man.
Anyways, let us know how Lightning Audio sounds. Interesting mix and match. Let's hear about it from the owner!

Congrats ..seems to be a sweet sounding setup.

Lightening Audio is a budget brand of Rockford Fosgate.

Similar to Bull Audio from Rainbow

Hey B-positive,

Install looking really good; one question, however: looks like your cross-overs are mounted within the doors, and I've been told that this exposes them to rain and water which drips through the door channels. You might want to check this out with some of the gurus on the forum.

Thanks,
Shiraz.

The damping kit used in this install is dynamat speaker kit which contains only two X 10" Pieces for mounting.

As shiraz said its not a good idea to mount the xovers inside the door panel as shown in the pic so its better you move them out from there.

Thanks All. I have never heard any setup costing more than 30k. But this sounds good to me. I am waiting for any Team-BHP meet, so that someone can tell me how it is.

I have not changed any setting till now. What ever Satya tuned that day is still running. I just change songs

I have seen my uncle's cars used to have those equalizers and AMP. But now a days he doesnot drive much and he gets a normal system. But he told me its sounds good.

About the damping karankapoor has replied. Did i mention something wrong :(

I am not sure about the cross-overs. So should I get it installed on the door pads?

I didnot want to spend more on this as i use the car everyday for only 20kms and on weekend complete rest to car or for some shopping and party.

That small speaker damping kit you got down does not do too much, it's still something better than nothing, actually a full door damping is ideal, but costs a lot with dynamat.

Most local shops and installers mount the crossovers on the inner side of the door panels, which in most cases is stuck on the bottom which causes huge moisture damage and at times even rusts terminals which becomes really bad.

Facts:
In this case it's high above and not really inside near the glass, so I don't see any reason moisture will affect it to cause any failure unless someone drowns the car.
I cannot comment about places with very heavy rainfall probably like a rain forest.

The practicality issue is in most cars with an company fitted OE power window it becomes impossible to pass any more than 1 wire through the stock socket connecting the chassis to the door joint without making additional holes.

We have opened up quite a few 2 year old installs we have done with crossovers in the same position behind the pad, no rust or anything, the only thing which is prone to damage is the speaker ring which is made of MDF and absorbs moisture, hence has to be changed every year or so depending on the moisture accumulation.

Oye. Did I see a single 4-channel amp powering a 4.1 setup? Or is it that the amp is not powering a pair? Or is sleep catching up on me?
