Default ICE upgrade for my Indica turbo

Hi, I am planning for an ICE upgrade. I am not so good with brand stuff.

My current set up is
  • Blaupunkt Maui MP36 head unit
  • Two front speakers (on the end of the dash board, circular type I don't know whats the real names of those kind of speakers)
  • Two oval speakers on the parcel tray.
Both the speakers are from GT series of Blaupunkt.

I am happy with the volume, quality, playback etc. from the current setup. The thing it lacks is bass. So I would like to add a sub and an amp to my current system. I am not an audiophile (hope the word is correct!!), and the budget will be alap (for me AS LOW AS POSSIBLE). In future (may be this year) I may go for another hatch, and I am looking forward to carry the sub and amp on to that. Is it possible?

In short my requirements:
  1. Good bass
  2. Sub + amp + necessary accessories
  3. Low budget
  4. Some what future proof ( for the carry over)
I hope my current speakers will sound fine with the add on sub.

So please suggest a good configuration Gurus, comments and suggestions are always welcome

I hope you dont mind buying grey stuff (because thats what you do when you want to get ICE done in ALAP)

Sub - JBL GT5-S12 (~2.8K)
Amp - Blaupunkt GTA2-MKII / GTA 280 - (~6.5K)
Wiring - Boss (~0.8K)
Sub Enclosure (~0.5K)

Total - 10K for Items - add another 0.5K for installation = Rs. 10,500.00

You should be good to go, i guess

Look out for used mono amps and subs at the classified section.

Go through thread by Greenhorn.

The thing it lacks is bass - that's because you have installed the speakers on the parcel tray that comes with the vehicle. All Indicas that I have travelled in which have speakers installed on the stock parcel tray(plastic) sound crap. substituting parcel tray with an mdf tray 18mm should do the trick for bass - please try this first before you look for a amp-sub set up.This will cost you less than Rs.1k

In future (may be this year) I may go for another hatch, and I am looking forward to carry the sub and amp on to that. Is it possible?why not - but please try the solution above first

Thanks Mi10 for the reply.

Well ALAP means I won't go after the grey, I will buy them with B&W, because I don't want them to gone kaput after some time. I want a quality product for the money I am sending.

Btw, is it possible to look for less cheaper amp.

JKD,
But I am looking for a fresh one. I want them to stay as long as possible. No upgrade will be there in near by future.

Vigsom,
I think I need more bass, and a sub is essential.
One of my friend had a sony sub+amp set up, and it made me think of a sub ( well that sony didn't sound too good IMO)

Please look out for a sub which can put out at least 200WRMS ;you should get a 12" ;hook it to a 300WRMS mono(the amp must have a higher rating to take care of future upgrades) OR a two channel amp, which can give 250-300WRMS when bridged.

I am not abreast with what's available ,but would recommend a sub+enclosure as a unit(JBL,Bull and Rockford Fosgate make this). This way you don't have to break your head with making an enclosure and ending up with problems.

This would more than suffice your requirements in an Indica or your future hatch.

What I want is good sub and make some good bass, and if you spot on a good product I will go for it

He quoted me 3K in Grey market, i bargained and got mine for 2.8K

Grey doesn't mean its fake; Its cheaper because, you dont come through legal route i.e paying customs and duties

If its with B/W it ll be around 4.8-5.2K range

If it is with B&W you can get warranty claim. If it is Grey, you can't claim warranty unless you have a word of mouth setup with the seller. The rest lies on your stars.

If you are going to emperor, i have a feeling that this is what you can expect
1. upgrade fronts to components. :6~7K
2. add a 2 channel amp : 3~4K
3. sub + box : 6k
4. place rear ovals on a rear MDF tray ( like mine) (.6k)
5. Wiring & labour : 1.5~2k
