Bridge the amplifer, wire the sub coils in series (8ohms) and hook it up...the 500Watts need is not a problem as it will be taken care by 93dB sensitivity of the driver.

93 db is probably with 2 4 ohms coils in parallel. with the 2 4 ohm coils in series the sensitivity at 2.83V will drop to 90db. even so I think JB is right. bridge the amp. it should be able to put out about 75-100W into 8 ohms (2 4 ohm coils in series). That should run the amp very safe and give you enough power.

The sensitivity of the driver is dependent on the cone, spider stiffness and motor structure. The 3dB drop in the output will be because of doubling of impedance, hence the sub will get half the power in 8 Ohms than in 4 Ohms.

Sensitivity is often rated at 2.83V (comes from the days of 8 ohms home audio speakers).

1W = 2.83V when the load is 8 ohms. When 2.83V is applied across 4 ohms you are actually delivering 2W hence the 3db (2x in watts) increase.

I'm not knowledgable enough to get into numbers, but out of all the speaker wires in your car, the one going from the amp to the sub should be carrying the highest current. So buy a fat speaker wire thats within your budget and keep it as short as possible.

a minimum of 16 gauge (1.5 mm sq) should be used...but 14 gauge would be ideal for your application....

the thin speaker wire is not doing justice to your setup...
