I think the only major thing its missing is the active capability. Rest all is covered by it.

The Alpine site says, 'digital transmission'. I dont think alpine could be fooling it's customers with an analog transmission. If it is, then it's very bad marketing. And is it the Job of the DAC to check which format it's working with, I thought it just converts digital signal to analog.
well do let us know. Another way to check whether HU supports WAV playback is to fill the pen drive with WAV tracks and see if HU plays WAV off the pendrive.

OT: i see ???? in your signature. Looks like you have some good surprises for us.

Congratulations Sathee..... you beat me by a week.

I thought I would be the first one to have it on the forum , but anyways...

Its supposedly to be good, do let me know how you found it to be.

Regarding the Steering controls, I believe there is a steering remote adapter available in the market for working that out with your steering remote. I too need that for my car...

+1, nothing major other than this. And most of us running passive crossovers wont need this feature.

I tried it. It plays wav off the Ipod but not through the USB. But still i'm 99.99% sure that the Ipod signal is digital. Being a digital signal there is no point of a DAC process in the Ipod. I would request gurus to help understand this better if i'm wrong.

Thanks Bro, By steering remote I meant the optional steering remote available as an accessory. My fiesta does not have any steering controls by default.

Usb connections only have 4 pins, power and data bus, there are no analogue
connections, all the conversion is done in the headunit...
Hope this clears the doubts

Congrats Sathish on your new HU.

I believe there is a major revamp coming about in your ICE. What else does the '???' mean?

@ Sathee, the Alpine would really compliment the equipment that you have in your car.

I still remember Nitrous's words during a Voodoo meet about the JVC HU.

I have bought the 9887 and still working on the setup.

I still have a doubt

AFAIK if the HU is not supporting WAV format when u plugin the USB or put the WAV on CD's then its using the iPod's DAC.

AFAIK if a DAC (Digital to Analog Converter) is being used the output is going to be ANALOG, Wheareas the USB connection cannot pass on an analog signal. I had my doubts too, but not after thinking of this simple little logic.

In the process i found that 117 is not the first unit to do this, the IDA 305, 303 does it as well.

@Others : Thanks guys, yes there are a few changes. Will update the main thread soon.

So, such a high end head unit does not have LPF? That's pretty strange. Or does it have it?

is LPF really necessary to have in the HU? as far as my HU goes, i never tinker with it... unless i change some other full range speaker, or do some sub box tuning....

should be the same in a high end system as well...
