Default Ikoneer's i10 ICE'd: start the music !!

"Will You help me ICE my car?" I asked a fellow Bhpian.
He, being as distinguished as a gentleman can be, said 'Yes'.
Thus began, My first step into the wonderful world of ICE.

To me, ICE is a Head Unit with 2 Front and rear speakers + tweeters. The comfort features and the looks were of prime importance than what it does.
The Amplifiers were an expensive affair and the woofer a big luxury item.
Maybe it was the lack of knowledge or knowing the right people/shop or the cost involved or the fear of being take for a ride that always restricted the interests

Until

i became a member of team-bhp. Team-Bhp changed my perspective and i was transformed from a car 'user' into an 'enthusiast'

Being a complete newbie, i created a thread for my ICE requirements. Though i got the inputs,i realised it was not possible for me to do it on my own.

He: What's your requirement?
Me: I want a good music system. I will leave the rest to you.
He: ok, let me plan the configuration and we will do it.

That's how it began, took shape, moved forward and finally in place.

A Big Thank You to all. Praveen, Manu, Mouli, Gilead, anku, Sathish.

The Installation was done by Kannan from GP Road.

Sathish, I should agree with you. I am not sure if it has concluded or the quest has just started.

We can have the audition anytime. Let me know when, am ready.

To say the ICE rocks is like keeping the settings flat.

The Music is CLEAR, CRISP, SHARP, NEAT, STUNNING, AWESOME (and I can go on ...) Tweeter twits and Bass Bumps.

The finalized ICE equipments are:
Head Unit - Alpine 9886
Speakers - Boston SL60 Comps
Amplifiers - JBL 1004
Woofer - Boston Pro Series 10.5LF
Cabling - JBL Kit and Scosche RCA

Let me just write down my user perspective on the equipments. I still need to be more experienced to call it a review.

Head Unit: Alpine 9886
Up: A very Nice system that offers sophisticated music and has all the required things and connectivity. The Blue lighting is very good and it does have graphical display as well.
It has built-in USB, 4V 3 pre-outs. Ipod, Bluetooth, Imprint (TA) connectivity thru cables and Aux-in.
There is a functionality called 'black out' which switches off 'all display' unless an action is performed. Very useful if you do not want to expose the 'blue lighting' in open areas during night time.

Down: The menu and navigation is a bit complicated to use. It uses different buttons for different functions and is not uniform. A first timer will have difficulty using the system without a manual
The system does not recognize subfolders, for example if the USB has 500 movies all organized into folders, it displays all 500 folders at the root and so it's very time consuming to search for a movie/song

Comp Speakers: Boston SL60
It does the job very neatly. It's hard to believe that two set of small speakers can deliver so much. Since the tweeter is placed directly on the A-Pillar it is so sharp that I have to keep the setting low all the time.
We wanted to buy the Boston Pro Series but it was very expensive and out of stock.
But, If I had purchased the Pro Speakers I couldn't have got the woofers, so it's good that way.

Woofer: Boston Pro Series 10.5LF
Wonderful. The Punch is so tight that it cannot be missed. On the first day of the install, I did not immediately notice that the woofer was not working (soldering gave away) and the music was very dull. The next day it was rectified and what a difference it made to the entire ICE.
An ICE without a woofer would actually spoil the whole setup. Come to think of it, I did not want to have a woofer at first due to shrinking budget.

Amplifier: JBL 1004
I cannot say much except that it is good. Now how does one judge the performance of the amplifier?

Pending Things:
1. The Door damping needs to be done.
2. Rear speakers to be put up. Earlier we didnít plan for rear speakers, but I feel something missing without rear speakers.

Ahh.. this ICE is like quick sand, more you try to come out the faster it pulls you in.

Enough is not Enough and tends to make one say 'yeh ICE maange more'

Congrats!! That's a good choice of equipment there. So whats next? Probably the full Imprint setup right? I am sure the system can be raised to a different level all together with the Imprint processor.
