Default Sub + Amp for Verna SX

Hi,

I currently drive a 2009 Verna SX CRDi. The stock ICE is just about OK with average SQ. The front speakers and tweeters are good, and are the saving grace of the ICE. About the rear speakers, the less said the better. I am planning to upgrade the rear speakers to JBL.

Now I also have a 2006 Zen VXi which was my daily drive till September 2009. The Zen has a Sony CDX R3300 HU and is fitted with a Sony XM-552ZR 2/1 Channel Amp which is bridged to power a Sony 12" Sub in a sealed box. As the Zen is now primarily used for family chores and is driven by the driver, I plan to take out the Sony Amp + Sony Sub and use it in my Verna. But, I am not sure if the stock Verna HU (2009 model) has pre-outs or a sub out. Can anyone point me how to go about adding the Sony Amp + Sub to the stock Verna HU? Can it be done?

Yes, it can be done. Get an LOC (Line Output Converter) to get the output to feed the amp. The main problem would be getting the sub sound to integrate with the rest of the system - your only control would making the sub face front or rear. You need to tune the gain of the amp well for different types of music and sources.

IIRC - that sony amp accepts speaker level inputs. A line output converter may not be necessary.

Check the specs online, or check the manual. Sony website says it doesn't, or rather - it doesn't talk anything about HL inputs.

@DerAlte - Yes Sir.. The website doesn't say that (because that's probably the last thing that Sony buyers would bother about).

But, If you look at one of those amps - the leftmost connector with the four pins is the High level input. Here's a picture for reference: http://sp.sony-asia.com/media/99/49113

Thanks for the response DerAlte, CrackedHead.

CrackedHead, my amp is the same as in the picture. Does this mean I can connect the sub without the LOC? So how will I connect the rear speakers and the sub to the speaker output of the HU? As you can guess, I am totally new at this .

@newcoolgadgets - yes, you should be able to connect without a LOC if you have the high level plug (white plastic connector with four wires) that came with the amp. Are you planning to do the wiring yourself ?

I would suggest that you start my reading the instructions manual of the amp - you should have received one with the amp of you can download one from the link in your first post.

Look at the input connections diagrams on page 2 of the PDF.
