Hey Guys,
Just came across the AUTO FUEL POLICY REPORT (http://petroleum.nic.in/ch_8.pdf). Chapter 8 talks about the octane number, Fuel specs for euro 3 and euro 4 emissions norms, advantages/disadvantages of aromatics, olefins, benzene. It is worth reading for the people who are considering the use Toulene to increase the octane of the comercially avaliable petrol.

Hi,
You should mix the right amounts of toluene with fuel, for example....

10ltrs 93 octane and 1 ltr Toluene = 94.72 OCTANE
10ltrs 93 octane and 2 ltr Toluene = 96.16 OCTANE
10ltrs 93 octane and 3 ltr Toluene = 97.38 OCTANE

more than 30% i dont recommend for our indian cars.

Cheers

* * Im sure all you guys know why we need octane so im going to skip that part. Now to some basics on Petrol.

Petrol constitutes of alkanes about 20 - 30%, cycloalkanes 5%, alkenes 30 - 45% and aromatics 30 - 45%.
In the earlier Formula Days they used to use a fuel called TOLUENE!! in formula cars which has a RON of 120 octane. But as F1 restricted the amount of toluene used they mixed n-heptane to that brew. N-Heptane is 0 octane. Toluene is a high energy fuel which is really mindblowing. This is how you go about it.

Take about 6 ltrs of 93 octane from a pump. Pick up Toluene from a chemical dealer (4 ltrs). Mix the two, add about 10ml Transmission fluid. Even Diesel about 100ml can be added but this can be skipped, even the transmission oil part. Why i say use AT fluid is it is a very good cleaning agent and diesel has a high energy value and is a good lubricant.

Anyway 6ltrs gasoline and 4 ltrs Toluene. To calculate final octane number work on this

(Gas Octane X Quantity) + (120 X Toluene Qty)
----------------------------------------------
* * * * * *Total qty of toluene and gasoline

THis gives you the final octane number attained. example for 10ltrs. {(6X93) + (120X4)} / 10 = 103.8 octane.
DONT MIX MORE THAN 40% OF TOLUENE WITH NORMAL FUEL this is just to be on the safer side.

What you guys can do is try in the begining mixing 1ltr of toluene with 10ltrs. The response is simply great!. Your chemical guy incase he doesnt get what you are pronouncing give him the Formula ( C6H5CH3 ) try and get the sulphur free ones. Costs about 30Rs/ltr.

Do let me know your feedbacks. Ive tried this one every car possible, from zen's to supra's.

Cheers
Dom

PS: Do let me know if you can acquire or know anyone who can get me toluene at a cheaper rate.
Something wrong with the formula .............
if I put 20 litres of 87 octane fuel and 2 litres of toulene ...then as per your fomula

(20 X 87) + (120 X 2) / 10 = 198!?!

LOL... dude, why u dividing by 10? formula says total qty of gasoline and toulene. in ur case thats 22 and the final value comes to 90.

I've got an RD which has a pair of machined High compression heads with a modded MSV. I need to have feedback from ppl other than dom who have tried this and been successful.

Apparently tolulene hardens all rubber parts in the fuel line, which includes hose and the rubber manifold, is this for real?

for my ignorance, I have some doubts
  1. Consider a stock engine, having normal compression ratio, that needs 93 octane to work perfectly.
  2. Add in 3 ltr of Toulene to 10 lts of 93 octane fuel to get 97.38 octane
  3. Won't the performance decrease?? Since the fuel is getting diluted to some extent with the Toulene??! Amount of "fuel" entering the cylinder will be less compared to "fuel" mixed with toulene.

I'm not talking about "stock" high octane fuels. I'm talking about 93 octane fuel + Toulene. I have another question, will post it later.
