I think these trucks also take part in the Paris-Dakar rally . They should be good . They also should be more VFM than Volvo , MB Actros etc .

These trucks are much more used in mining than on the roads . We have a lot of them in the mines already in India .

By the way, anybody know if these are still available. Has Kamaz provided a Euro-3 engine for these trucks.

Though just for info, this is one of the most shocking engines in the Indian commercial market today. Its shocking not because of how good it is, but because it shows how over engineered it is.

It gives no more than 260hp and 1100nm of torque. Those may seem like pretty good figures, and they are. That is till you see the engine specs. This truck has a twin turbocharged intercooled 11L V8, and still this is all you get from such a behemoth of an engine.

See the lane indiscipline, perhaps a regular tipper guy is at the wheel.

Can rule the roads by the sheer behemoth presence.

Just a question, besides bad marketing, why is it that the Kamaz trucks haven't been sold in big numbers so far?

How is it compared to its rivals in terms of price and after sales service?

Price - ~ 30lks. Total of 5 are running with GK Granites. Few are operating in Ranchi, Vijayawada.

Service -They offer service support for the vehicle you buy in your area.
But you should understand sales and service grows hand to hand - only when sales increses service will be incresed / extended / offered and only when service increses sales increases

what is this? Horizontal differential hub? what is its advantage?any technical advantage over normal configuration? If I am correct, the prop shaft is connected to the unit mounted on top of the diff and the power is transmitted via helical gear/shaft to horizontal differentials. Could be to provide more vertical axle movement(uneven road surfaces)?

Well, another guess. Considering the height of the diff casing, may be there is an extra set of reduction gears inside to help the torque. May be Kamaz use it instead of hub-reduction axles.

Multiple wins and podiums at the Paris-Dakar proved to be a fantastic marketing and PR tool in the past decade for Kamaz. That said the rally prepared vehicles only use bits and pieces of the road going trucks - much like the WRC cars. Kamaz has a reputation for building rugged trucks but they are certainly nowhere near the likes of Scania, MAN or DAF when it comes to product\Engine development capabilities. Until recently Kamaz relied on Cummins to provide them with higher power \ emission spec engines but I suspect they now have in-house programs for new generation engine development. Daimler trucks has some shareholding in Kamaz.
