For vehicles like Ace magic and Maxximo van, currently the USP is diesel engine. I hope they innovate and compete with feature like AT, ride and handling, etc.

Omni is still the most car-like and the Ace Magic and Maxximo van look like 4-wheeled autos. They need to respect people a bit more. Put on a proper door, Tata and Mahindra!

It looks like a nice effort from Mahindra.
the doorpads look of decent quality for a vehicle in this category.
only think i did not like is the roll up windows, and the butterfly windows too.
both should have been of the sliding type.

Tatas have already done that. The Venture is aimed at that segment which you're refering to. Ace Magic is a rural transport vehicle as originally conceived providing barebones but safer transport compared to threewheelers.

Another me too product! Everyone imitated the Ace once it was successfully introduced by TATA. And after the success of the Magic (man, I see them all over road here), this! Why can't they be innovative themselves?

But I feel all these clones will play second fiddle to the Magic by a mile - same as the Ace clones.

7. How does it compare with the Tata Magic, its nearest competitor?

Thanks to anyone who can provide the answers.

1. It is an 8 seater. Mahindra claims there are two versions - D+6 and D+7
2. Yes, the front passenger seat can seat 2 persons
3. Boot space is comparable to that of an Omni
4. Mahindra claims an FE or 20kmpl
5. I think it's an after-market addition, doesn't come as an option
6. So far there's only one version announced
7. IMO, a better product. However only time will tell if it would become a hit

Most of the trucks have this arrangement.

Actually there are quite a few of them plying in metros, especially Chennai. Most of the Ape and Minidor 3-wheelers that are used as "share-autos" are getting replaced by Tata Magics. Even Pune has quite a lot of them, AFAIK.

Mahindra is expert in doing this.

But overall I liked the vehicle especially in orange shade. As others already mentioned it is no threat to OMNI. OMNI is in different class and refined than other two.

Innovating too much in this segment will take the price tag higher, which is the last thing any business operating customer might want right now. Remember, this segment is about 'Who can carry the most'. Design, interiors, features, all come way later in the picture.

It might be in a different class and more refined than the two, but the absence of a diesel option is surely hitting it hard. Diesel fuel is currently the best friend of LCV fleet operators.

^^

Even it has diesel option I do not see OMNI is used where other two are. But diesel version will definitely increase the sales of CARGO version.

Since its basically a rural/semi urban people mover it will ahve to negotiate poor to non existent roads, how does the suspension fare? Is it soft and bouncy or hard and jarring? Any ideas? Anyone ridden in one of these as yet?

Somehow the M&M Maximo and the passenger version seem a bit unstable by the looks of it compared the the ACE.

the ACE body is quite proportionate to the track width of the axles whereas the Maximmo body protrudes all over the place under a puny looking track. even the rear overhang is longer than the ACE. maybe the independent suspension ensures there is no toppling under sharp turns..

nothing to match the ACE's rugged look but in this segment, its all about ownership costs

Do not see too many MAGICs on the road, wonder if the MAXXIMO will be able to change that? Its surely got the advantage of CRDe behind it

Mahindra launched the GIO compact cab recently, here in Kerala, see the link below

Gio Compact car launched in Kerala - Rediff.com Business

I couldnt find any more information about the cab, is it an autorickshaw replacement? Looks uglier than the pickup, may be it serves the purpose of the intended customers.

Edit: This is already being discussed here
