Agree. 4 cyl would not be suitable for any kind of bus.. other than minibuses.

Agree with Transsenger. But why would Volvo bring another brand while they already invested in Eicher? I think, at least for now, Eicher is the mass market brand of Volvo in India...It is very likely that VECL will become a 100% subsidiary of Volvo AG some time in the future, when that happens will depend on the success of this JV.

Scania, MAN, Nissan & a few more Chinese manufacturers are soon to storm the truck & bus segment with new vehicles. Some of these should start giving Tata motors and Ashok Leyland stiff competition in the mass transport segments.

Only wish they price the Bus right. If its priced right, then it will take away the whole concept of buying a chassis and getting a body built on it. This one if priced right has the potential to put many manufacturers out of business. The key is pricing it right

If MAN wanted 60 lakhs, then I guess they would have gone the whole hog - rear engined that is

@Tushky:
DO you remember what kind of axles did the front one was?
is that a untised hub?
I think the rear is a Hub reduction axle.
But why do they want that for a bus?

Mean while what could be the price of this bus or what this bus can deserve being a FE Fully built.

How do you say the rear one to be a reduction axle?
From the image seems to be a normal axle and with volvo style wheels and front seems a unitised hub.

@Alphakilo:
The way you concluded the front axle is a Unitised one, the same way I felt rear is a Hub reduced axle.
But still its from the image only, as the rear hubs are looking larger than usual. No idea still!

Yes.Nissan Diesel was purchased by the Volvo Group in 2007 and is now a subsidiary. But after the transaction Nissan Diesel's business relation with Nissan Motors continued as normal and the Nissan Diesel & UD brand names are unchanged

I believe its a MAN now ; The front pic helps
The real expectations from MAN will be in the form of suspension and ride quality

Explorer is a nice addition to growing Inter City Luxury bus market. Would love to see them on road soon.

Pics : MAN's new front engined bus-2.jpg
Here is an add in this month’s CV magazine.
I was pleasantly surprised with the storage space and true flat floor. This will definitely change the perception of FE buses as its likely to have less NVH due to completely tucked in engine below the saloon floor. Also the effective position of fuel tank, air tanks means it liberates lots of space for luggage.
Wish this is priced appropriately unlike their trucks.
