The front side of 9100 looks amazing! I wish they had introduced this on 9400 series and given the present 9400 looks to 9100. The first noticeable change is the mirrors which seem to lack electrical adjustment.

The 9100 seems to be a "Made for STC" bus. State Transport Corporation would love this model - hope they come with a better mileage and cheaper spares. The 9100 would then be THE bus for STCs.

Which one is the 9100? The Green one or the Silver/Grey one in the foreground?

Grey one. As you can see the cost cut measures like ordinary ORVM's, normal Hella head lamps and we may need to wait how other specs is been tuned for India.

How much cost difference is there? When this will be available in market?

No idea. But this should be around 60 lks.
With market completely moving towards Multi axles, this move will be quite interesting to watch.

Volvo seems to be on a roll with product releases. But I wonder whether the 9100 will all but for a few units kill the existing 9400-B7R. Or will the product positioning is 9100 for single rear axle and 9400 for dual rear axle. That way they will be able to seggregate the budget and the premium market. Actually 9100 should compete with Corona and similar other vehicles.

May be this is going to be a combination of the B7R chassis with a detuned D7E engine with a power output around 250-260 BHP and a 9100 coachwork. Just my presumption.

Volvo is likely to use the same chassis(and power train also).

This will be the sealing point for 4x2 coaches and anything above this(price point) may not make into production.

This seems to be the answer for tata divo, leyland new range of buses & bharat benz new bus propositions.
Volvo will always try and maintain their market lead as they have done with b7r & successful in retaining toll date

The 9100 now seems to look like one of those Volvo imitations we see from other manufacturers. Interesting move, which may attract smaller operators to their fold, with tickets still priced at 'volvo' bus rates.

The 9100 still looks like a regular Volvo for the average eye except when you look closely such as - the mirrors are of ordinary quality, the headlights seem to be the normal ones rather than those projector type, the interior trims may be a tad lower in terms of materials used.

As mentioned by benbsb29 even with all these changes, the operators might pass it off as a regular volvo and charge us the same making more money in return, however the biggest question is would these sport a different powertrain (not specified in their website and may be lower rated) compared to the normal volvos. Now that might make a difference in costs etc and would be closer to the other rivals in this space.

Also find this pic courtesy Volvo website with the 9100 along with its original siblings (note the straight lined window near the passenger doors)
