The category quadricycle does not fall under LMVs and hence many of the requirements meant for cars are diluted. By the way, it's CMVR (Central Motor Vehicle Rules)

Is it the same Bajaj Auto who make the Pulsar bikes - that is responsible for this contraption ?
It is the same Bajaj Auto that makes the RE 3-wheeled contraptions that rule the roost in India. It wasn't until they saw some competition, albeit minuscule, from TVS, Ape etc that they brought in some visible aesthetic changes to the rick.

Will this be any safer than the Rickshaw ?

Will it topple over ?

Is the material metal or plastic, If it is plain plastic than the open rickshaw was probably more safer as the passengers were able to crawl out themselves or pulled out by passerbys.

Does anybody have the full specs of this vehicle ?

I see 1. CNG plate 2. AC vents 3. Centre mounted driver console 4. Lockable gloveboxes. and finally 5. Is that black thing on the window a curtain ? Any other features ?

Regards

i have seen these a month back on the Mum Pune Expressway. They were testing these with dummies on the rear seat. It is way too small for a normal sized human. Doesnt look like this would be a comfortable means of transportaion.

@Dieseltuned. Dont think it will topple over since it has 4 wheels as compared to the unsafe 3 wheeler.

Sorry if I am missing the point here. But, what is this car aimed at? Is it going to compete against the likes of Nano or is this going to replace Bajaj's autorickshaw line up? This looks too small and unsafe to be called a car in the first place. I am really skeptical how the market will look at this car.

This will not be positioned as a car, its a replacement for three wheeler. If i remember it correctly, news sources mentioned that this vehicle cannot be registered as a personal vehicle and is strictly for city passenger transport.

An alternative to Autorickshaw. This comes with 200 cc engine and top speed quoted was 70 km/hr.

This is not a car meant for personal use but more as a replacement for the existing auto rickshaws.

On the other hand i beg to differ. Instead of one commuting by 2 wheeler, this RE60 of bajaj can be a good replacement.

Spotted the Bajaj RE 60 while on my way to Mumbai. The yellow one had a LPG sticker on it while the green one had a CNG sticker on it.

This can definitely be a good replacement for the existing Auto rickshaws. Its a covered vehicle, better handling, better safety (from rain, dust, etc). Hope it happens.

Thanks to Aniruddha Chaudhari for sharing these pictures with us!

First, Bajaj was testing the RE60 with dummies. They're now running tests with a luggage carrier on top.

What does a quadricycle mean here? All the test mules are shown with a body, and AFAIK a quadricycle does not.

Regardless, I love the tiny vents on the rear bumper near the wheels.

Many BHPians have always advocated the use of top end cars with highest safety features available, and we have always wanted the Government to bring strict safety norms by making Airbags, etc mandatory in cars.
IMHO, disallowing these quadricycles to ply on the road, is in one way, support our collective argument that the roads have to be made more safe and pollution free.
Such introduction of newer breed of unsafe vehicles have to be stopped at the beginning itself, and new ways have to be found to root out the existing unsafe vehicles (may be replace all auto rickshaws with proper mini taxis such as Nanos. They offer comparatively better safety, and help incrementally increased safety).
On a large scale, we need to figure out a way to discourage the use of two wheelers / bicycles on busy streets, as a means to beat the clock.
We should move towards making our vehicles more safe. Introducing unsafe transports, by taking example of the already existing unsafe modes which anyway should be eradicated, is not a progressive approach.

I agree with everything else in your post except for the quoted text. How is the use of bicycles as a means to cut down travel times a bad thing? I feel we should encourage bicycles more than motor vehicles. For the common man a efficient public transport system for daily commute and a bicycle for personal travel is more than enough.

As for the RE60, I strongly feel it should come with speed governors limiting its top speed to 55kmph, and limit its plying only to city/town limits. It can greatly reduce urban congestion and I for one love the way it looks.
