Default Ashok Leyland - International Presence

Ashok Leyland in the recent years have been very aggressive in the export front. They have already opened bus building facility in RAK and inroads are done in Russia, South Africa, Turkey etc.

Here is the new Red Ashok Leyland bus, made in Nigeria by VON Automobiles. AL buses have good presence in Lagos BRTS.

The below is the AL buses displayed at Turkey busworld show. Also the new midi model built by Volgabus on Aiva Ashok Leyland chassis.

AL has been supplying to Nigeria since the late 1970s. They had supplied buses to their army then. Interestingly, those buses had only "LEYLAND" written on their front. The "ASHOK" was missing.

Middle East in the 80's used to have a lot of Tatas and Leylands. The buses were used for transporting construction workers from the work sites to their home camps. Trucks were used as garbage disposal trucks and also for small and medium freight transportation.

Ashok Leyland, the only Indian exhibitor, showcased a new range of inter-city and intra-city buses for the Middle East, North Africa and CIS markets at Busworld Turkey 2012.

To address the burgeoning transportation needs of these markets, the company has locally tied up with Utikar for the development of 8-metre buses and with Katmerciler & Volkan, a special equipment manufacturer, to produce multi-utility vehicles such as garbage compactors, hook loaders and fire trucks. All these vehicles will be specially built on the proven Ashok Leyland chassis.

The company also presented the keys to the first customer of its newly launched buses and a fleet owner from Azerbaijan who placed an order for 200 buses – a truly confidence-boosting start to its sales.

Default Ashok Leyland supplies 100 ‘Falcon’ buses to Ghana - Order worth USD 7.6 million

Hinduja Group flagship, Ashok Leyland, has supplied 100 ‘Falcon’ buses to Ghana. These vehicles were inducted into the fleet of Metro Mass Transit Limited, a transport company, in which the Government of Ghana has 45% stake, for both inter and intra-city applications on 360 routes throughout that country.
At a recently held function, the buses were handed over to H.E. John Dramani Mahama, Vice President of the Republic of Ghana by Mr. Arijit Dutta Chowdhury, RM -SEWA, Ashok Leyland at Accra in the presence of H.E. Rajinder Bhagat, Indian High Commissioner to Ghana, Mrs. Dzifa Aku Attivor, Deputy Minister for Transport and other dignitaries from Ghana.
“Africa has been one of our key focus markets and presents some very unique opportunities for a commercial vehicle manufacturer like us,” said Vinod K Dasari, Managing Director, Ashok Leyland. “This order is one more affirmation of the trust and acceptance of our vehicles in various parts of Africa, like for example, our buses hold a premium status in the Bus Rapid system in Lagos, Nigeria which is the only such model in sub-Saharan Africa,” he added.

All these 100 buses were specially customized into 57-seater, left-hand drive buses to meet specific customer requirements. Ashok Leyland also becomes the first commercial vehicle manufacturer to introduce a mechanical inline fuel injection with an Euro 3 engine and electronic destination board in Ghana.
This is second such major launch by Ashok Leyland in Ghana after the induction of 160 waste management trucks last year.

Ashok Leyland shutting down AVIA plant in Czech Republic.

http://www.business-standard.com/art...1400151_1.html

According to this report, ALL is stopping production at its subsidiary AVIA's plant in Czech Republic.

It seems to me that in effect AVIA is being shut down. ALL seem to be making good use of its cab design which will be launched here in India.

Bad news! AL should have turned the company around. The Avia facility could have been used as a foothold in Europe. They could have assembled other AL products there. East Europe is potentially a good market for AL.

None of these companies will be interested in Europe considering their falling volume and competition from established European players.
Even Tata wanted to offload Hispano as they are a dumb asset like Avia.
Its not making justification for its buyout apart from indegenisation in India.

An order of 88 AC buses from Bangladesh Road Transport Corporation (BRTC) has been successfully completed by Ashok Leyland.

The bus seems to be built by Irizar-TVS based on their iT09 design. The vestibule buses supplied also looks nice.
