There was a brief period when the 410 and 712 were marketed. But the 407 and 709 monikers were hard to be wiped off from the target customer-base and replaced with something else. Hence, the 407 and 709 remain to be called the same, but engines and payloads are now different.

Here in my place, I know a few people who were not ready to buy a 410-Ex, but they were happy to pick up a 407 Turbo. They bought the refreshed 407 recently.

AFAIK, the emission norms necessitated additional changes, and it wasn't confined to just a change in the FIP.

Well, you also have the 407 PICK UP that comes closest to the original 407 at least in terms of GVW if not HP. It uses tyre size 7.25 X 16. The original 407 of 1986 received at tyre upsize (from 7.25 to 7.50 X 16) and a few other changes in 1988 to make it a 5.3 tonner. Then more recently, the tyre size went up to 8.25 X 16 to create the six tonner version. Any idea what's the HP of PICKUP?

I am not sure historically what variants, with what tyre sizes, was available. But today, there is only one tyre size ie 7.5x16. The 4-tyre version is 5.3ton GVW, while the 6-tyre version is 6.5ton GVW. The 4.3ton GVW had 7x16 tyres, with a lower ply rating. But I dont think the truck version of this is available anymore, only for buses.

The only engine though is the 100hp variant. To make the 3L 497SP engine meet todays emission norms at lower power ratings you have to use common rail systems, like in the Sumo Gold.

IAB has reported that TATA might have have sold about 25 Ultra truck variants to gauge feedback. This was part of the coverage feature that was published for the Tata Ultra 812, showcased by a Tata dealer at the India International Commercial Vehicle Show in Chennai last week.

The details also suggests that it could be powered by the same 3.0L engine that powers the Ultra 714, tuned to produce more torque.
The Ultra 812 could host more or less the same set of features as seen in the Ultra 714 and Ultra 1017 which were unveiled at the 2012 Delhi Auto Expo.

The Tata Ultra 714 truck housed a 3.0L 138hp common rail DICOR engine, capable of a peak torque of 360Nm. Features in the Ultra 714 included an audio system, cab tilt lock indicator, low-fuel indicator, air filter service indicator, door ajar lamp and a leather finish dashboard.

The Tata Ultra 1017 ICV on the other hand was powered by a new 5L DICOR engine, capable of driving out 168hp and 590Nm of torque. The Tata Ultra 1017 was rich on features which included HVAC, cruise control, ABS, suspended driver seat, 12V power socket, power windows, electrically adjustable ORVM, GPS and a music system.

Could not verify this info.
However currently they are available with regular electronically controlled 497 TCIC engine producing 125PS of power and 400Nm of torque.
