Default Mahindra scorpio pickup in 8 months

Looks like Tata got competition. Scorpio pickup is coming in 6-12 months. It will have the same 2.6L crd engine. If they price it right, Tata truck is out of business.

Tata fired up the small diesel car segment, looks like it will be mahindra which will set alight the Suv/SuT segment. Way to go Mahindra! The scorpio pickup is already on sale in other countries, so the product should have gone through its consumer field testing.

If they are priced right, they will. Its a question of positioning. If they price it low enought to entice the yuppie crowd and the semi rural crowd it will do well

if its to be produced for the rural crowd, then it has to be made cheap. dont think mahindra make it cheap enough for that segment.
for the yuppie crowd it might be a good bet, but then thats again a very niche segment..doesnt sound like a good proposition all in all.

Pick-up culture...either you have it or you don't. India does not have it. Atleast the cities. And frankly, thank god for that!

Maybe if Dodge launched their Ram with a V10 Diesel, then it may earn the respect of the yuppie crowd. Not a Tatamobile or Scorpio.

I think its like breaking the ice.

This segment does not exist because there are no proper products, and product does not exist because there is no such segment here...vicious loop..
If mahindra breaks the loop and clicks, there there is a chance...

Anyways, all the best to Mahindra..

BTW, I read the article on Overdrive, the truck looks to be longer than its car counterpart. The also have mentioned that there is ample rear leg room. Hafta wait an see

I saw the Scorpio-based pick-up at the Auto Expo in Delhi.
It doesn't look good at all, thanks to Mahindra's stinginess in investing in new dies (typical Indian attitude-save costs). Except the load body, every body panel seems to have been borrowed from the Scorpio and the mix-and-match doesn't seem to have worked somehow.

I doubt if there would be many takers for it in the lifestye segment.

Thumbs down Pick ups - Naah!

Pickups are goods carriers in India. Not too many people, except rich farmers, and probably rich shop owners will own them as semi-personal vehicles.

A bad idea for india. Then maybe they're just doing it to show additional "products" in their portfolio.

Found these pics on a South African web-site. Dont remember which one, but will try again to get the URL.

Guess pick-ups would still remain a niche segment in India for some more time. Most pick-ups in use in India today seem to be with small businesses, where they would need something to carry both people and small amt of cargo.
Personally, still contemplating a 207 crew-cab or a Bolero Camper. If I do, will let know ..

P.S: Mods, pls remove prev msg - first attempt at posting images.

A pick-up bed really dosent suit the Scorpio, which is aldready a slightly narrow-looking vehicle.
