Default Tata Ace with long load bay spotted @ Jamshedpur

I spotted this long variant Tata Ace at the service centre @ Jamshedpur. 2.5 tonne haulage, Dec 2015 expected release date and slightly updated interiors. Temporary registration, not a lot of camouflage.

Must be an aftermarket load bay. Overhang is definitely more than permissible!

Doesn't look good from stability and safety point of view! Under heavy load, the extended rear portion will droop.

+1, This is an aftermarket job. From the pictures it is evident and easy to make out that the company does not do the testing this way. Since, there is no exterior change we could not expect them to camouflage.

Moreover, the test mules that have been spotted and reported so far on this forum or different other forums generally have the red number plates with number in white colour written on them. In this case, it shows a yellow number plate which is for commercial segment. May be the owner is waiting to get the registration done.

How can you be so sure about this? Did you speak to somebody having access to inside information? Moreover, I do not believe that the company would take approximately two years to come up with minor facelift or miniscule changes in interiors.

No, as far as i understand, it was not a aftermarket load bay. How do i say that? Well, when the vehicle was coming out of the service centre, they didn't allow me to take pics. Also, the conversation went something like this. Please read on:

Conversation

Quote:
Me: Itna lamba gadi kaun sa hai bhaiya?
Driver: aise hi, kuch nahin.[Tries to avoid me]
Me: Matlab, ee naya gadi hai kya?
Driver: abhi nahin aaya hai hua kuch mahina me aayega.

When i tried to take pics of inside, he stopped me form doing so.

Me: photo kahe nahin lene de rahe?
Driver: aap nahin le sakte.{Mutters comething about company]
Me: Accha thik hai. Waise kitna maal tanta(pulls) hai?
Driver: Karib dhai(2.5) ton.
Me: Accha.
Driver: Thik hai, ab chalte hain,[Drives away].
As far as i understand from this conversation, this is a test mule.

I believe this can be test mule as there are many small trucks available in Korea with similar overhang (Kia Bongo). But for the load carrying capacity of 2.5 ton I am not sure. It is too much for this kind of truck.

However, this segment is absent from Indian market barring 407 which is too high for day to day load carrying utility.

These above two statements do not match. How come the drivers statement of few months signify the Dec2015 (23 months from now) launch. Did he mentioned specific month of launch?

Don't know what if its a test mule or an aftermarket job, but I loved the local dialects in your conversation.

Such a large rear overhang is not what any OEM would recommend. This seems to be case of after market loading bay. These after market loading bay trucks are easier to identify as the under run protection bar is well ahead of end of loading bay. Such bars are not required for smaller CV like Ace.

Also, the registration plates indicate this is not a test mule.

request mods to lock the thread till further information comes up. The loading bay here indicates the design is very very unsafe.

I have seen many of these. Definitely aftermarket. Where did you see the temporary registration? Looks permanent to me.

Some vehicles have temporary registration as JH05AB (T) 2555.
For example. This one here As far as i know, i have seen many cars having normal number plates(yellow/white) with just a (T) to signify that they are temporary. AFAIK, it is not necceseary to have red plates. At least that is how it works in Jharkhand.

Extremely sorry sir, It was 2014 and not 15. A typo from my side. Request mods to please change it in the original posts. Dec 2014 is just a guess, according to what the driver said.(Some months)

Overhang apart, I am not sure if its only me, the wheelbase looks longer as well.

Default Re: Long Form Tata Ace variant spotted testing @ Jamshedpur

This is a Super Ace ( 1 tonner) platform being designed/ tested for 2.5 after some reinforcements I guess.
I am afraid, its front wheels loose traction if loaded to the full capacity, with such a long loading bay.

Question Re: Tata Ace with l-o-n-g load bay spotted @ Jamshedpur

I doubt if it's an after market job. One can see the ladder frame being extended till the rear of the carriage. Won't the frame end shorter if it were aftermarket job?

After market jobs in India include extension of the chassis frame as well.
