Default Tata Ace Zip: 100,000 roll-out from Karnataka

Tata Motors has just celebrated the roll-out of the 100,000th Tata Ace Zip at its Dharwad facility in Karnataka, that has a capacity of 90,000 units per annum. The Ace Zip is the second highest selling variant from the Ace family. The Ace name was created in May 2005, while the Ace Zip arrived in May 2011. According to Tata's official statement, the variant ropes in average sales of 2,500 vehicles per month and enjoys a 78% market share in its segment.

In India, the Tata Ace Zip has been used in various applications. Variations include cargo vans, water tankers, dumpers, tippers, display vans, shops-on-wheels, snack centres, delivery vans etc. Around 200 Tata dealerships with a total network of around 1,800 outlets retail the Tata Ace range.

Tata Motors said future upgrades for the small commercial vehicle will include a higher ground clearance, new engine configurations, new fuel options like CNG and there are plans for an electric variant as well.

Curious to know! Did you have an influence in this configuration?

Dear Anirban - indirectly, YES! Look at the drivetrain of this vehicle and then look at the drivetrain of "another" vehicle! Hear the sound of this vehicle and then hear the sound of the "other" vehicle, then you'll get it, or else PM me if you have difficulty making the "connection"! .

Best regards,

Behram Dhabhar

I probably know what you are speaking about and that in all probability that competing vehicle also has connections with the Matador in the reverse sense. But this one was stated to be a hybrid of Nano on a ladder frame. Probably a test bed for the Nano Diesel engine to be based on.

Dear Anirban and Fintail (by PM) - both of you please sit down at the backside of the vehicle and keenly observe its powertrain. Then observe the powertrains of the other vehicles that you have mentioned, including their derivatives. All these are production vehicles running on the roads out there so this is public domain. You will get the answer, just look, listen and very carefully observe!

Best regards,

Behram Dhabhar

From Business Standard:

Quote:
Engineering company Greaves Cotton today said it has won a 10-year contract from Tata Motors to supply small diesel engines for its new half-tonne truck -- Ace Zip -- which is expected to be launched in the first quarter of this fiscal. "Greaves has developed a 600cc engine for Tata Motors' new truck. It will also supply CNG engines for the truck," Greaves Cotton's Managing Director and CEO, Prabhakar Dev said in a statement here.

Greaves Cotton is supplying engines to Piaggio for its four-wheeler truck Ape as part of an eight-year contract. The company also meets the diesel engine needs of three-wheeler makers including Piaggio, Mahindra & Mahindra, Atul Auto and Scooters India.

Greaves Cotton plans to build a new engine manufacturing plant at Aurangabad in Maharashtra at an investment of Rs 100-crore to meet the growing demand for engines. This will take the company's total automotive engine manufacturing capacity to 4 lakh units per annum, the statement said.

Maybe a higher powered variant?!

M&M launched 'Jeeto' with a long deck 16 bhp option as well. Perhaps Tata is contemplating an additional higher powered engine variant as well (compared to the existing 11.3 bhp variant), to keep their market share intact.
