Uber introduces autorickshaws, cash payments in Delhi
Uber, the online cab hailing service, has introduced UberAUTO, an auto rickshaw service in Delhi. Users will be able to hire auto rickshaws in the city and for the time being, pay cash directly to the auto rickshaw driver once their trip is complete. They need not have any balance in their Paytm wallets.
Users will have to login and book their rides. No booking charges will be levied. Additionally, new customers are being offered a free ride of up to Rs. 300 on bookings in Delhi. The auto rickshaws will ply at fares fixed by the government.
In November 2014, rival company OLA started an on-demand auto rickshaw service in Bangalore. Users were able to book auto rickshaws at a convenience fee of Rs. 10. Additionally, a cashless payment option was also available.
Ola was reportedly paying auto drivers Rs. 10,000 per month on top of the fare and Rs 1,500 as mobile charges reimbursement.
Two months after Ola introduced its auto rickshaw booking service, its then rival, TaxiForSure also launched one on its mobile app and mobile site. Now, Ola has acquired TaxiForSure.
