Default Mahindra to launch 'Imperio' Premium pickup range in January 2016

Mahindra has officially announced that it will be introducing its premium pick-up range in early January 2016. This new range has been named Imperio.

The Imperio is targeted at small and medium businesses. Mahindra has supposedly concentrated on its styling and this range of vehicles are expected to offer good performance well as driving comfort.

The Imperio was conceptualized and developed at the Mahindra Research Valley, Chennai. It will be manufactured at Mahindra's Chakan plant in Pune.

Currently, Mahindra enjoys a 53% market share in the LCV segment (<3.5 ton load-carrying capacity).

Mahindra will launch the Imperio pickup truck on January, 6, 2016. While the vehicle has been spotted without camouflage previously, some more spy images have surfaced, giving us a closer look at the truck.

The Imperio appears to be nothing more than a facelifted version of the Genio. As we have seen before, it gets a restyled front fascia. There is a redesigned grille with a honeycomb mesh pattern and silver accents, reworked headlamp clusters, a tweaked bumper and a new bonnet.

The sides and rear of the truck appear to be largely similar to the outgoing model. The new bonnet has resulted in the bonnet shut lines appearing on the sides of the vehicle and the turn indicators on the front panels are new.

On the inside, the Imperio gets a black dashboard and steering wheel. The designs of the parts and fittings are carried over from the Genio.

The Imperio is likely to use the same 2.5-litre diesel engine that is found in the Genio. This engine produces 75 BHP and 220 Nm of torque and is mated to a 5-speed manual transmission. Mahindra has given it gets two driving modes - Power and Eco. A switch on the right side of the dashboard allows the driver to choose between them.

The Imperio will compete in the sub-3.5 ton LCV segment and will be aimed at small and medium businesses. It is expected to come in single cab and double cab variants.

Looks far better than the slopped Xylo front. Hope to see this replicated in the Xylo. Will make it more butch looking and may revive the lagging people carrier. Good going Mahindra!

This is quite appealing than the Grill-less look of the Genio. And, perhaps, could also inspire the next Xylo facelift.

They should have launched it with the Thar spec 105bhp 24kgm torque spec engine, at least for the top variants just like how Xenon is being sold.

Looks aside its the most practical pickup giving both good space for 5 passengers and a decent loading bay, though if it was me i would choose either the Dmax space cab version or the Xenon 3.0l 4X4 for that money.
