Default DC Design builds Mobile Jewellery Store on a Scania Truck

One of Kerala's Jewellery brands- Chemmanur International, has launched what it calls India's first mobile Jewellery Store. It has been named Parrakum Jewellery (meaning Flying Jewellery in Malayalam). Based on a Scania Cab+trailer, it is expected to do the rounds of Kerala spending a few days in each district.

Extract from a Motoroid Report

Quote:
Based on the Scania G410 tractor trailer, the mobile jewellery store has been done up by popular design firm DC Design based on the requirements of the owner. Speaking of the owner, this one of a kind specimen is owned by Boby Chemmanur, the Managing director of Boby Chemmanur International Group. Another interesting fact here is that the brand, under the name Boby and Maradona Gold and Diamonds; is co-owned by popular Argentinean football player Diego Maradona. The latter is said to regularly fly down to India to inaugurate new stores of the jewellery chain.

The launch happened in the City of Calicut in Kerala. I was actually in town that day and did see this vehicle when I passed by the area, but could not take pics or explore more.

A picture of this truck has been doing rounds on Whatsapp.
The Maradona connection explains the half buried soccer ball on the cab roof.

Total waste of a truck for what it was actually made for. A single driven axle Leyland could do the job. But I guess it's all part of the show.

Haha.. This truck is nothing but a moving advt.

With so many modifications to a yellow board, wonder how the yearly fitness and road legality is handled.

Somewhere in South India a thief is thinking - A jewelry store and a getaway vehicle rolled into one? NICE !

While the design is good and unique, the rear resembles an Auto rickshaw.
A couple of questions
are these mobile shops, showrooms legal?
Do they have restrictions on what can be built on a truck chassis?
Do these mobile shops come under the Shops Establishment Act?

Earlier there were Mobile ATM's. It is about the same in fashion. Normally it gets parked in a ground during the day.

Here they are getting a moving advertisement trailer + business shop.

I felt the same. Their car customisations looked good more than a decade ago and have become indigestible lately. But the buses and trucks kinda look good. May be they will make it quirkier too in future, like they did with the cars.

Something similar was tried earlier in Mumbai in 2007 and the concept failed miserably. The mobile vehicles for that particular brand were incidentally designed by DC too! And they looked just as weird and ugly as this new one.
They had tried selling lower priced jewellery with the idea of visiting college campuses and corporate houses.

The whole idea is basically not feasible and more so with precious gold jewellery. This will just get the brand few days of PR and after a few months you will find this truck lying unused and will be ultimately a write-off on the balance sheet.
