Default Kochi Port receives its 1st car carrier ship

Quote:
KOCHI: Car carrier ship MV Dresden will be arriving at the Cochin Port on Monday. Dresden is the first car carrying ship to conduct service between ports in India.

The car carrier has the circuit of Ennore-Cochin-Kandla-Cochin-Ennore, connecting the automobile production hubs in Tamil Nadu in the East coast and Gujarat and Haryana in the West coast. The ship, which has 13 decks and the capacity to carry 4,300 cars, will be landing 500 cars in Kochi.

Though the cars will be driven out, they will ask for "Nokku kooli'.
"Nokku kooli' is the Malayalam word for the fees sought by them for doing nothing but watching.

Yes, it went like what we predicted.

There were problems galore for unloading of cars and a ship MV Dresden skipped Kochi port due to problems with unloading workmen and it took a week to settle things.

A settlement was reached by agreeing for deployment of equal number of drivers by the clearing agency and equal number of workmen of the head-load workers union. The ship returned on Monday.

Needless, to say that the union guys will watch and take money while the cars are driven out.
