Default Fups

Now on Tata chassis - the "Front underrun protection".
It is learned that TML has gone a step ahead by launching two SLFmodels, namely SLF1512 & SLF1618. The former is 11m bus and later a 12m one.
These are supplied under Jnnurm to various STUs.They have a floor height of 840mm with front Weweller & Rear Air suspension.

Also the AL Jnnurm buses (featured on my earlier post Exclusive Leyland RE buses for KeSRTC), have not yet been delivered to KeSRTC.

Interesting quote is "due to a road block the highway police diverted the traffic away from the highway and into the city roads"
I guess this could happen any time in Thiruvanthapuram!
The driver of the bus says," international standards of the Volvo buses are not meant for the Indian roads".
Let us ignore him as he is not as educated in automobiles (and also not paid) as the guys who make the decisions.

For all the Actros fans as well as CV fans here is link to Mercedes Benz's site on Xtreme trucking in which they have also showcased Indian Actros trucks. It's quite interesting to watch, find time to watch it!

Default Volvo in Chennai

Here are some pictures of launching ceremony of Volvo, Ashok Leyland buses under Jnnurm by MTC in Chennai.

The AL FE SLF bus is different in terms of body design, when compared with ones supplied to WBSTC, CTC, CSTC etc though it features the Newgen type Headlights & front grill profile.
I believe AL SLF(FE)buses under Jnnurm for Pune, Thane, Navi mumbai etc has a different body design. The body built by ACGL on AL chassis is of entirely different design. Here is one by Antony Garage (similar ones are built by Harsha, Bangalore).
Can anybody get some pics of Jnnurm AL & TML buses from Pune, Thane, NaviMumbai etc.

Also some recent media reports suggest, Prasanna Group is going to launch Volvo LE bus for JMTD.

This looks more like the traditional buses with doors at the front and back (more practical i guess), unlike the KerRTC ones with doors in the middle

That is news, ACGL started to make buses on AL chasis? Being a TM promoted company, for most part they used only Tata chasis. Do you have pictures of this bus?

I do not think this is Chennai. The bus is having inscriptions in Devanagari script!

+1

This does not look like Chennai. With the Tamilnadu Government stressing on "Tamil", i am sure they would not make this mistake of writing something in a non-tamil (other than English) language on the buses, that too at the launch ceremony.

I dont know if this is posted earlier. News is that Tata has bought Hispanso.

Source : Tata Motors ups stake to 100% in Spanish bus firm

Article :

Quote:
Tata Motors, India’s largest automobile producer by sales, has bought the remaining stake of 79 per cent in Hispano Carrocera SA, Spain’s largest bus and coach bodies manufacturer, for an undisclosed sum.

Tata Motors (TM) had paid ¤12 million (about Rs 70 crore) in 2005 for buying a 21 per cent stake in the Spanish company. Ravi Kant, now non-executive vice-chairman and then executive director of TM, was appointed chairman of Hispano.

The stake buy gave TM the access to Hispano’s design and technology in bus building. It also acquired the licence for brand rights of the Spanish company.

TM had the call option of buying the remaining stake of 79 per cent in Hispano, which it exercised today. It was also widely expected in the automotive industry that TM would eventually increase its stake in Hispano, mainly to reinforce itself as one of the world’s largest bus makers. The company currently ranks second in the world in bus making. The call option was exercised through mutual agreement with the other shareholder, Investalia SA, Spain, stated a release from TM. Hispano now becomes a fully owned subsidiary of Tata Motors.

“After the acquisition, the company will further strengthen the ongoing initiatives to improve operational efficiencies such as productivity improvement, cost reduction, and new product development, to improve market share of the company and enhance brand value. Tata Motors is confident that Hispano will now emerge as an even stronger force in the Spanish as well as global bus and coach markets,” the release added.

The Spanish company currently manufactures a variety of city and intercity touring coaches from two of its facilities located in Zaragoza in Spain and Casablanca in Morocco, North Africa. It also has commercial relations with more than 50 countries and a capacity to make almost 2,000 units every year.

Earlier this year, TM started commercial production at its newest plant in Dharwad, Karnataka, which is also the world’s biggest bus making facility, spread across 123 acres and a capacity to make 30,000 a year.

The plant is owned by Tata Marcopolo Motors, a 51:49 joint venture of Tata Motors and Marcopolo Motors, the Brazil-based, global leader in body building for buses and coaches.

I noticed the same, Majority funding in case JNNURM is by Central Government, so they should put Man Mohan Singhs picture.
A/C buses will be(already are) a big success in Chennai because of the weather conditions. Also MTC should introduce Non-Volvo A/C buses at cheaper faire like BMTC did, so that every body could enjoy benefits.
