Tata doesn't own Marcopolo. It has only set up an Indian JV company in partnership with it.

Would love to man, but I am almost always going in the opposite direction and almost always in some sort of public transport. By the time I go "uhh..waaht...?" , the mule has already passed me by.

If this helps, the one I saw today morning, had the front end camouflaged, with the twin round headlamps being the only portions exposed. The trapezoidal doors (I dont know what else to call them) resemble those on a 90's Mitsubishi Fuso.

1. Here it is.
Model: AL Ultra Low Entry Buses (AC / Non AC)
Engine: Cummins CNG. (Hope diesel version will have Hino engine)
Gearbox: Allision fully Automatic
Chassis & Suspension: In technical collaboration with Beqi Foton (China)
Body: pannels/structure by Azad group and assembled at Leyland's Alwar plant.

This model was introduced by AL while participating in DTC tender. AL got order for 875 buses. Hope the same shall be seen very soon in other parts of our country. Presently AL offers fully built Low floor & Semi Low floor buses (mostly built by HMM, Ruby) etc.

2. AL has been offering tractor trailers for terminal operations at various ports with fully automatic transmission. There are nearly 22 numbers of them at Cochin port.

3. Also some pictures of Tata buses in Ghana (Africa).

It'll surely beat the Marcopolo in the diesel segment!

It does get a HINO diesel. Its one of those "new generations" ones that AL has sourced from Hino recently. AFAIK it'd be churning out 230hp.

On a side note, a few of these Leylands have been introduced in Trivandrum, on trial. The Corporation (City Corporation) and the KSRTC are joining hands to introduce a new transport system with funding from JNNURM. They have got funds for some 100 AC buses....

Is that volvo waiting at Kayamkulam Bus station? I had taken the Volvo from Trivandrum to Bangalore on February 01. The guy covered the entire distance in 15 hours, flat!

Here are the photos that I took that day:

Yes! They are. The dash shown in the image above is one of the CRDe heart. In fact, some later Mark III buses also had these dash boards.

Here is one of the old one - Used in Mark I, II and some early versions of Mark III

I notice there has been some changes made in the cockpit of the new CRDE Volvo buses. I do not see
1. the Retarder which can be very useful during cruising or climbing down ghats. Are they automatic now or done away with as drivers are reluctant to use it in India?
2. the second horn (the big red button) on the steering wheel though the steering wheel looks more modern.

AFAIK, the retarders are now automatic. And, there was a switch for it on the dash. The driver needs to keep it on for the retarders to work, from my understanding.

The red horn button has been replaced with a small button on one of those levers on the sides of the steering. IIRC, it is on the lever on the right.
