Default LF bus evolution

1.. Thanks Binaiks for your inputs abt BIG10.

2. As i had said in one of my earlier threads, evolution of low floor buses in india dates back to the launch of "SITIBUS" by Leyland(Iveco). It was referred as 'Low Floor bus' (2 step entry), with a floor height of 780mm from the ground, 8460cc Iveco 280hp engine. Also there was another model "Panther" low floor bus with a floor height of 900mm (throughout the saloon length). It had a rear engine - HinoWO6E.
Lateron, more models based on "Panther" platform came like Sitibus2000, Environ (withCNG engine) etc. All of them had 2 step entry.
Then came Tata with the "LPO1615RE-Easyride bus".(first rear engine model from tata stable). Then they had "Starbus" series, initially 2 step entry models, then with 1 step and later a "Ultra low entry bus".
In the meentime Volvo came with its B7RLE. It was a low floor bus with no step entry. In the earlier times all those buses with 2 step configuration was referred as "Semi Low Floor".
Today these nomenclatures have been changed. Low floor buses are specified by the number of steps in entry / exit. And as per the avaliable sources, present day classifications may be as follows:
1. SLF (Semi Low Floor) - 750 to 860mm floor height, example AL VikingSLF
2. Low Floor buses
- 1 step entry below 600mm floor height
- 2 step entry 600 to 750mm
3. Ultra low floor / Ultra low entry buses; 350mm floor height.
Different configurations are avaliable within these classifications.

The below is the illustrative image of Viking SLF chassis.(images are from one of the earlier threads.) Also a new model Tata SLF bus introduced for Ahmbd BRTS.

!
Usually if a key customer like a large STU makes a request, the company will built the chassis with a specific engine as long as its technically feasible. These guys place orders in 100s and 1000s.

Hey thanks tushky. Have seen this truck many a times on the highway (fleeting glimpses only) , but always thought that it was the Mitsubishi Fuso , because of the doors. Guess I was mistaken.
The samples that I was seeing were fully covered, though.

But will it work in India ? It looks smaller than the 407 , and may retail for around the same price.
Whom will it compete with ? The larger LCVs or the 207/Pik-up class of vehicles ?
 <div style=

Hey, anybody snapped the Mahindra truck. I remember Tushky posting a few snaps a while back. Didnt hear anything after that.
On a couple of trips to pune, I did saw the truck on the highway (near Hinjewadi) probably on its way towards ARAI.

I saw the Volvo used by the government bus service in Hyderabad yesterday.. very nice option to replace the AL buses but the only problem is the high cost.

Excellent pictures Pramod. The CORONA and the Truck were special treats. Your MM540 in steel grey also looks like a million dollars

The GOI is buying about 8000 buses (TATA, ALL, Volvo) under the JNNURM scheme and distributing to the major cities. The volvo's in Hyd have been given for trail for 3 months. If teh APSRTC likes then they can place specific order for these.

The STU's need not always go for VOLVO but can also go for TATA Starbus A/C ones like the DTC has done. Getting good buses will help move a lot of people from personal transport in the cities.

Default Luxura

It has been so long that we have heard about Ashok Leyland "Intercentury LUXURA". There have been reports about APSRTC, KSRTC, Kesinine etc launching this bus service. Has anyone spotted one? Can somebody get pics. of these buses.
