Though the quality of the front is not as good as a Volvo or Merc, the rest of the design, and especially of the dashboard is commendable. Elegant, except the one pull-switch towards the right side (for the AC?).

The brake pedal looks different, looks more like the ones in TM and Corona buses. Is it like this now?

There should've been rake and reach adjustment for the steering column.

Any info on the performance on the 12M RE?

By the way, when is the actual Luxura going to be launched? Rather, will it ever be launched with the 360bhp engine (wasn't it the 360bhp J-series engine initially?)?

The J-series was a 260hp engine whcih was offered on the original Luxura. The 360hp is the new NEPTUNE series engines of AL.

Thanks for reminding!

It was indeed 260hp J-series. And this J-series engine had to be scrapped because of issues and NVH, is what i've heard

You get for what you pay, dear.
AL will be positioning this coach as a mid range coach.
This will meet head on with Isuzu LT134. Spec to spec this will be matching to Isuzu but will come with more additional and better features like Cruise Control, In built electro magnetic retarder, Leymatic Automatic transmission etc.. over and above safety features like ABS, electrically operated exhaust brake, full air suspension.

Pull type switch is for AC.

They are floor mounted pedal and since from same supplier they may look same.

This is like any other Leyland is giving a better KMPL figures of atleast 15% to 20% better than High end coaches. And not to mention about the cheaper maintenance.

There is no market(very low volume) for coaches such as 360hp for a single axle coach. The important aspect of AL is to target the bottom end where they are strong. AL (neither Tata in this aspect) can never compete with high end coaches and so they does the best what they know.
Also by over all sales figures globally AL is far ahead of Volvo(if you are speaking about..) and so you can never expect AL to develop some products like B9R 4x2 (9400 with 340hp). So they will definitely concentrate in mass Volume products like Jan Bus.
They will offer a similar comfort at a fairly smaller sticker price.

J Series was a 8 litre 260hp engine which was capable of upgrading to 360hp.

Default Re: Intercity Bus travel reviews- Another accident today near Alleppy

Both Mathrubhoomi and Malayala Manorama (Malayalam dailies) are reporting on their online news that today early morning a Trivandrum bound "air bus" from Bangalore collided with a jeep proceeding in the opposite direction near Alleppy. Two people in the jeep are reported to have lost their lives. As expected, the name of the bus operator involved is not mentioned by either website.

This fortnight is proving to be particularly accident prone for Bangalore orignating inter city buses. First KaSRTC Merc to Chennai, then the Kallada Non AC Seater/Sleeper to Kottayam and now this third one.

An update on Facebook says it was a "wine red" coloured B9R of KPN that met with the accident. Some 5 people are injured as well.

Is that a Full LED taillamp?. Seems chinese or off-market lightings are much more efficient than OEM's. Volvo's do have LED brakelamps, but are not full LED's. It would be nice to see LED technology taking over the halogens and filaments. They are much more pleasant to view and are enery efficient with longer life times. Although, they are at times quite bright and irritating.

Traveled from Pollachi to Bangalore in ABTX travels.

I usually prefer Coimbatore boarding points, but then this was a last minute plan.

The bus started at 8:35 pm and went towards Udumalpet, picked some 10 pax(by then bus was full) and went on to Tiruppur(10:45pm). I slept after that and woke up at 4:00 am when it was crossing Attibelle.

Got down at Silk Board by 4:30.

If not for the Udumalpet route, it would have reached early, but then still it was a quick trip considering that it is a 12M AC bus.

ramzsys,
Mostly they will drop us in Silk board by 4.30 AM. ABT can revise their timings. Instead of having 8.30 PM departure, they can think of 9.00 PM departure. Because of this, In my last two trips i tried different operators from Coimbatore instead of taking ABT from Pollachi.
