Sorry for thr typo!

It must've been a Taurus, not Comet. Almost all the trailer tankers had a slope towards the rear, IIRC.
Taurus if I am right was the rigid double trucks IOC had, that came with the factory fitted cabins.
The one I am refering to ran during the 80's. Had a seperate single axle tractor unit with the front face of a Comet truck or Viking bus.
I remember the old Taurus IOC had as well. It had a funny face , again a double axle rigid.

Can anyone here tell me if there are any preowned heavy truck network in India (a la Maruti True Value)? My brother in Bhopal wants to buy a Preowned tipper.

Also, tell me what have you guys heard about Shriram Finance? Good?

You're right about Taurus. Guess it's Hippo, that was used as a tractor. The cab was almost always built by third party body building workshops, so you can't really say which chassis it is, by the looks of the cab.

During the 80's and early 90's in Bangalore, IndianOil used to run a AL Tractor Trailer oil tanker, a Comet if I remember right within the city from their depot in Banasawadi.
It caught my attention since IndanOil had their own trucks with the red and white theme and IndianOil written in huge fonts on the sides of the tank and the trailer looked way ahead for the time.
I am going to kill the guy who said "keep a thing for 10 years, and you will have use for it". I destroyed the owner's manual for my AL bus (of 1978 vintage) sometime in 2000. That ought to have been 15 of 18 years. That book does mentions multi axle tractor trailers. So, your sighting is not a "novelty", but only a "rate sighting".

IIRC, the refuelling trucks at Cochin airport (the one on Willington Island) had one or two trailers - again from Indian Oil.

Could have posted the scans of the owner's manual if I had it.

I doubt that such a network exists. It would be news if one such network does exist. Financiers like Shriram do have an "informal arm" where they sell off seized vehicles. I will not recommend that though, because there may be legal hassles involved. (The financiers are entitled to seize and sell the vehicle, but the old / defaulting owner can alway drag both of you to court).

Some time ago Ritchie Bros had an auction in India, from the news article it was a good success. As of now this is the only organised company that I heard of.

Shriram has a formal network of selling refurbished trucks.
They run it as Shriram auto mall.

They have their branches in TN and AP.
Not sure of other states. They provide buying / selling and Financial assistance.

Thanks Backseatdriver and manishalive. I saw a lot of complaints lodged against Shriram on many consumer forums. Guess my brother will have to look for a clean deal. And I know it'll test his patience.

Default 49 Tonners

Which are the 49T trucks currently in the Indian market?

I think there's the AL 4923 and U-4923TT and TM 4923. What are the other options?

And who brought out the first 49T truck in India?

Caught by surprise....an MNAL MN25 in the form of "Elephant Truck" at Guruvayur Devaswom Elephant park. I guss this one would be donated by MNAL to the temple. Meanwhile, the high side deck body had some internal reinforcements to secure the elephant. Unlike the half / open side bodied trucks used by private elephant owners here, this one seems to be more elephant friendly.

Damn! How did it happen? Makes the chassis look so brittle and weak!!! No sign of damage to any other part of the tipper. Even the load body hasn't come off the hinges
