I think SRTCs seriously need to retrain their employees in the workshops to adjust to modern engines that are used in our buses today.

If they get scared of belts, what will happen when we shift over to BS4 stuff, there will be electrical wires connecting all sorts of components to a "computer"!!!

Either they should be trained properly, or their maintainance should be outsourced. I think the manufacturers will be more than happy to do either training or maintainance, of course with good payment.

That is expected from unionized employees. These sophisticated machines need more skilled labourers. KSRTC should go for fully built buses and maintenance should be done by the Manufacturer, (Like the DTC). It is hard for any SRTC to cope up with the changes.

Do I smell a dead rat there? Cultivate resentment, and then scrap this project on that pretext.

This could be true. But the body workshops are capable enough to replace the horizontally sliding glasses with vertically sliding glasses, like those found in MTC buses, or even with shutters.

KSRTC is (in)famous for their fetish for canvas curtains - I'd seen a lot of buses in the TN and TS series in which the shutters were replaced with the loose curtains, within a couple of years of usage.

Nobody to blame except the workers themselves. Technology will evolve. If they are not able to cope up, they'll end up losing it to AMCs and trained/contractual employees.

As we have been discussing on some other thread - there is a shortage of HCV radial tyres; which proabaly explains the glut of old cross ply HCV tired vehicles.

Also, the rims are 3 piece - the main rim with two rings - one fully circular, and another "broken" rim which functions as a lock.

Actually in India, both cross-ply and radial CV tyres are in shortage. But the supply of cross-ply is made up from supply from China, unlike the shortage for radials, which has to be absorbed by the manufacturers.

Though many a times, these Chinese tyres are not the final delivery tyres, but are just used to take the truck from the factory to the dealer, who finally attaches the tyre and the chinese tyres are sent back for re-use.

Its true that the STU workers are unable to handle advanced buses. Except a couple of depots, the maintenance of BEST Kinglongs is below average. The diesel BS-3 SLFs (with EDC) too are in a bad state. Their engines have become a far shadow of their original self. Performance has dropped a lot.

Forget advanced technologies - the air suspension of many BEST's SLF buses too is in doldrums

I appreciate NMMT's decision to entrust the maintenance of their Volvos to Volvo itself. These buses are in a very good condition even though some of them will complete 2 years in service in 2-3 months from now.

On a different note, does anybody know where we can find the details of "The Bus code" supposed to have been rolled out from April 01, 2011? Any idea whether STC Workshops are following when building any new bus.

The Bus Code can be downloaded from the website of ARAI - search for AIS:052. There was a newspaper report recently that KeSRTC's workshops have been certified.

AL turns up with an impressive website and widest range of models for its international operations. Highlights include "ELAND bus", HAWK, 4x4bus, Comet4x4 Fire trucks etc.

Check this out: http://international.ashokleyland.com/vehicles.php

Its high time AL shows this type of aggressiveness in domestic market too!

Very true. But they have atleast partially updated their website. For some reason, ALL seems very IT unfriendly :(

Very true. This is the perhaps the best and most user-friendly website I've come across from a vehicle manufacturer. No excessive flash used anywhere, and very easy to navigate through.

But, did some one notice one thing? What is Eicher 10.90K doing on the website of TATA?? This is what happens when designers just "google" for images!

Couldn't understand what you mean. But, the TATA Motors website is still showing the Eicher 10.90K's image as the icon for "Chassis".

that is one big goof-up in the TATA website...I am not able to check this from office now, I guess it is a flash page, which is not loading.

Well, this site is new. I remember it wasnt there even one week before. Seems like in the haste of putting up a new site, this serious error had ocurred.

It is still there on the home page, but no longer on the adress in your page. Here is a screenshot.
