I recently undertook a journey in an Isuzu intercity coach. Ever since that journey, I've become a fan of that engine. Can someone throw light on that engine specs? Does Isuzu outsource that engine or is it their own R&D? I checked out the Swaraj Mazda web site and couldn't find any related information. Any inputs will be appreciated!

SML used to be Swaraj Mazda Limited. Now the company is known as SML-ISUZU Limited. Website here: swaraz mazda

The Isuzu bus used by Conti Travels is the SML-ISUZU Prestige

Default MNAL bus chassis later this year

Quote:
Pawan Goenka said, “We would sell the cowl and chassis for people to make their own buses. We will make the chassis, which is in the final testing stage. Sometime this year, we will start selling the bus chassis.” While the joint venture company was expected to sell inter-city and intra city buses under the MNAL brand, the company has for now pushed that target by more than a year. “We still have not finalised plans for any factory-built buses. That will take sometime. May be more than a year,” he said.
M&M will sell bus chassis later this year

The place to be in the toll-gate between Bangalore and Hosur. Can catch all the Tamil Nadu and Kerala busses there. Was passing through the place yesterday, and it was simply Bus 'heaven'

An interesting spot. This is from the news letter of IAG (International Armored Group). The subject armored passenger bus seems to be built on an Ashok Leyland 4x4 chassis, not sure which model. The steering wheel, instrument cluster, gear lever etc resembles Stag, Lynx type.

There was one specific model made for Angola by Leyland quite sometime back. Seems that this vehicle is made of that chassis.
Its a 9M bus with 4x4 configuration.

BMTC's new Corona city bus trial is doing well with testing done in all routes. Grade-ability test at Nandini layout came out positive. Now the bus is doing trial at KBS to Airport route. It seems the performance of the bus is better than the Tata Marcopolo low floor bus. Once the trials are successful BMTC will induct more Corona buses in its fleet.

URAL ( Kolkata based CV Manufacturer) developed a new Rear Engine Semi Low Floor buses with Manual Transmission and trying to give a trial run to BMTC Bangalore. But being an Euro III complaint bus, it could not be registered and used in Bangalore. They are trying to register the bus outside Bangalore and bring it to the city for trials. However rear engine bus with manual gearbox was a failure in City bus application.

As far as I can gather, the Corona uses a 160hp ISBe engine. And this for everybody's info is a 4cylinder engine. I doubt that this will perform better than the 180bhp 6cyl, albeit older design, Cummins Bseries used in the MarcoPolos. Will monocoque construction which I am assuming Corona carries over from its intercity buses, save so much weight to have a serious effect on performance??

Here I am assuming the BMTC MPs are 180bhp and not 240bhp versions.

+1

BMTC's Marcopolos (AC and Non AC) are built on LPO1618 chassis. AFAIK, the AL Viking SLFs are also the 180hp variants.

Corona should be higher powered engines.
Moreover 20 HP may not make difference if the gear ratios are not matched properly.

Nope. The AC ones are also on 1618 (RE) chassis. BMTC bought the bus for 32 lakhs a piece. (650mm Floor height, without kneeling function)
