I would put my money on AL 12M or TM Divo instead of Corona
In my view Divo cannot be a value for Money.
It does not fetch the premium ticket fare the Volvo gives nor the reduced sticker price which Isuzu gives. Its sitting in between and making a disproportional buy.

I've got some real shocking news

Called up SUNDARAM MOTORS (ASHOK LEYLAND Dealer for Bangalore) and this is what they said
"We are only selling 1 model in VIKING and CHEETAH, the one that is BS4 ready. We have stopped sales of all other models. There is no 12M Chassis on sale now. We are awaiting fresh information from the factory and have no idea when/if the other models will go on sale"

Apparently, LEYLAND has pulled out all its non BS4 models out of the market. Wonder if it is the same scene with truck chassis also. If this is really true, then 90% of the models in LEYLAND are consigned to History!

Bangalore moved to BS-IV regime earlier this year - so any vehicle that is registered there HAS to be BS-IV. So the dealer in Bangalore has no point keeping BS-III vehicles. If you say you'd be registering the vehicle outside Bangalore limits, he might arrange a BS-III chassis for you. I am not sure if ALL has got any BS-IV compliant 12M buses - AshLey can provide more info.

Please call up an ALL dealer outside Bangalore (outside any Metro city) and see if you still get the same response.

@ Arun : AL has BS IV compliant in Viking (standard and SLF).This is primarily migrated for STU's who operate in BS IV compliant cities. Apart from this there is no requirement / market for BS IV chassis(for other MDV models) and hence they are available only in BS III.

I am not clear what you meant by "Apparently, LEYLAND has pulled out all its non BS4 models out of the market".3

Some 90% or so of the CV sales in India take place in BS-III market. Except Delhi-NCR, BS-IV market is confined to the big cities.

The point I was trying to make is that ASHOK LEYLAND does not have a 12M Bus for sale in Bangalore

Majority of the 12M chassis is used for Inter-city transport, and they are bought under finance, no financier will permit someone resident in Bangalore to get it registered outside Bangalore on a benami name

The company should have thought out their strategy. They knew that BS4 norms are going to come into force, how could they create a vaccum in the market?

Well, if non BS IV models are withdrawn, from an eco PoV, what is wrong about that?? I would be happy. And indeed I am.

Also, read in some business paper that AL is contemplating 1% hike in prices, so they are probably pulling out / clearing old stocks.

The same scenario existed from 2005 to 2010 also (BS II for Non metro and BS III in Metro/Blore). Then how did the financier lend money?

For that matter, no other manuf. incl. Volvo does not have intercity buses for sale in Bangalore as on date (due to BS4 norms being effective).
Meanwhile, it was AL who responded first with a BS4 bus, as the market moved from BS3 to BS4.

AL takes its ULE to SirLanka...the Lanka Ashok Leyland version! Here is some news on the same > Lanka Private Bus Owners Association » new luxury bus service for colombo city
Also an A/c luxury coach for LAL.

Meanwhile, its high time AL does something in the premium & deluxe intercity segment in India. The present day generation in India compares AL with the likes of Volvo and surely AL will loose its brand image in the days to come, if it still keeps concentrating on chassis...

Didnt knew that Tata LCV's are now available with ABS, atleast for Export markets.

AJL had invited EoI for purchasing 145 buses for BRTS in mid-September 2011. The proposal for purchasing 125 buses was already approved under Jawaharlal Nehru National Urban Renewal Mission (JNNURM), said a senior AJL official.Four companies - Volvo, Mercedes, Tata Motors and Corana Bus from Pune - made a presentation to the company a couple of days ago. AJL officials expected response from couple of companies from Korea, Dubai and Japan but they did not turn up for some reason.
Quote:
The company had placed order for 20 air-conditioned buses from Ashok Leyland. However, the prototype of air-conditioned bus produced by the company was found to be below standards and as a result, the contract awarded to Ashok Leyland was cancelled.
This is the utlimate...
Quote:
"having burnt its fingers in awarding contracts to indigenous players, the company has sought approval from JNNURM authority to allow them to buy buses from foreign companies, said the official.
How come King Long missing or the Dubai reference was wrt KingLongs. What about Eicher?
Whom to blame here, the manufactures or the officials of AJL?

Obviously, something is very fishy here. All the named manufacturers, and AL supplies buses under JNURRM. So, what is so special with AJL's buses under the JNURRM??

And Mercedes does have RHD buses. So, why is the AJL official speaking of LHD Mercs?

The buses or recovery van of the Government transport depot with Magnet bar should go in all the routes once in a day or twice in a week. That will collect a lot of metals as well as it will be a help to all the road users.

AJL demands is little odd as they have designed all their stations to the height of 900mm making only FE SLF's to run in the system.
AC in FE SLF was not available with both AL and TM .
But AJL wanted to try AL Viking slf with AC and obviously it failed as its intended design was different. No Foreign players have ready products meeting the floor height of 900mm. These press reports IMHO are given just for advertisement.
AJL should wait till a product is developed by AL and TM.
