I am wondering what the fare is going to be like. Its 1200 bucks from BLR to Pune in a Volvo. I hope it is not too far fetched.

Good to know that Mercedes buses are joining the fleet! Although the Volvos have an edge when it comes to comfort and NVH, I guess now it remains to be seen how the Mercs hold up in the long run and how much it costs to maintain compared to the Volvo.

The fare KaSRTC has announced is same as that of Volvo. On the Bangalore-Mysore route, both Volvo and Merc would charge Rs. 260 (i.e., Rs. 237 base fare + levies)

Default BS4 Leyland

Recent media reports suggest that AL has received orders for 2850 buses from TamilNadu-STU, which includes 150 BS4 buses for MTC Chennai. This is the first of this kind order from an STU so far. So its again AL who leads the industry!!!

Now, can somebody share more details on these BS4 offering from AL. Is it having some advanced Hino engine or the new Neptune engine?

Default Bangalore-Mysore

Travelled by KSRTC Merc yesterday evening from Bangalore to Mysore.

Interiors :
The bus has funky LED lit interiors. The upper luggage holder deck is all plastic. The AC vents can control the amount flow but not the direction of flow. The reading lamps are good. The interior feels plasticky and there is no carpeting.

Seats :
The seats are not as chunky and comfortable as in Volvo. Also the Hip point of the seat is set higher and this meant inadequate back support. Under thigh support is not as good in Volvo. The seat recliner on my seat was damaged and this meant the seat would comeback to its original position. This was not expected in a brand new bus.

AC :
The AC is pretty good as well as the circulation.

Drive (Perception) :
The pick-up is surely missing. I could see the bus struggling to move ahead after slowing down for speed breakers. This in spite of the bus being in first gear. The bus takes a lot of time to attain triple digit speeds, once there, cruises comfortably. I feel the turbo-lag is huge and the first two gears are very sluggish. This is because, the bus struggles to move ahead in these gears.

Ride Quality :
Excellent and smooth. The engine and road noise is very well insulated.

Comparo :

Compared to Volvo, Merc is surely not as nimble and luxurious. But it is still better than Isuzu.
My Rankings,
1.Volvo
2.Merc
3.Isuzu

Spoke to a driver 2 days back who was driving the Benz on the mys-bangalore route. The driver used to drive a B7R earlier and claims that the B7R was a real mile cruncher. I am sure he meant to say floor it and the bus would take off.

As per him the MB aint that fast as the B7R and that the B7R's were always easier to maneuver.

A few pics of new city buses of MSRTC. These are operating in Vasai (near Mumbai) and Ratnagiri as of now. They are built by Aurangabad workshop of MSRTC. Chassis is Viking BS-2. The engines are fantastic

The same buses like these which are powered by CNG are alos runnung on Dadar-Panvel, Dadar-Uran & Dadar-Panvel-Khopoli route from Dadar T.T. & are also running on Thane-Borivali, Thane-Bhivandi, Kalyan-Bhivandi & Panvel-Kalyan routes. These buses are much comfortable compared to regular MSRTC buses.
But still don't know, after using CNG also; why these buses are still much noisy like other old buses ??

Default New Volvo8400 KeSRTC

Spotted the fresh lot of JnNURM VolvoLE buses on their way to KeSRTC Trivandrum. Few of them had the new front face!...the front seems slightly similar to the Volvo8900.
