Honestly... looks like a karur body! Also notice the shirtless driver.

Seriously, the front looks like a cheap Volvo clone. Lacks the Volvo quality.

@binaiks: Driver is shirtless because they would have turned off the AC. I've seen this being done in some MTC Volvos during their last trip of the day - they turn off the AC and run only the fans during the last 5-6km of the trip. Needless to say, by the time it reaches the depot, it'll be quite hot and stuffy inside.

Just noticed that most of the non-ac SLF JNURRM buses in Kochi are keeping their doors permanently open. Or is it because I am always seeing them between Kaloor adn Menaka (where the stops are too close?)

same case in bombay, non a/c jnnrum buses doors are always open. Only 2-3 depots make sure their buses have the doors being closed between stops.

The bus in Mumbai is different from the one that was given for Trial in Pune/Bangalore. The LE version given for trial in Pune/Bangalore had the registration number MH-14-BA-9307, while the one in Mumbai has the number MH-14-BA-9598. Pune/Bangalore had received both the C120 and the C120LE, while Mumbai has received only the C120LE.

I had a short ride in the C120LE last week during a visit to Bangalore. The bus jerks a lot less than the Volvo (During starting off from a stop) and throws passengers a lot less (while braking). The ride and noise levels during run are more or less similar to the Volvo 8400. The Vibration levels are far far less than the Volvo 8400 during idle.

I felt the seating in the 8400 was better than the C120LE - the MCV had very hard seats, and very tight leg room. The seating capacity and layout are similar to the Volvo 8400.

Some other points: The interiors looks pleasing, compared to the Volvo. It looks a lot less boxy inside, and the curves are soothing. However, the bus made a lot of rattling noise as it moved - clearly pointing fingers are poor quality of fittings. The exterior looks too old-fashioned.

Some images from Bangalore attached.

Good Review Binai. Looks like Mercedes is trying a different route to Volvo by not opting to go with fresher designs.

I travelled in BEST's bus today for about 3-4 km. My observations too are in line with Binai's observations.

The engine is fantastic. It did 0-80 in less than 200 metres on a slight upward incline. You never realise when the bus picks up speed. I was under the impression that the bus must be doing 50-55 kph, but when I glanced at the speedo, it was well above 80! It is refined and jerk free.

Exteriors are well finished. No issues with that.

But interiors are not upto the mark. Quality of plastics is not good at all. Window glasses too were rattling & shaking. There were rattles already in the interiors. An AC vent was hanging loose. Door opening mechanism was making squeaking noises while opening/closing the door. Volvo is certainly miles ahead when it comes to quality.

The instrument cluster & dashboard: It is so dated! Does not look modern at all. Again plastics were not upto the mark here also. Volvo's dashboard is generations ahead. The D, N & R buttons looked very cheap and fragile. Odometer is mechanical. Even the Kinglongs have a digital one!

A major blunder: horn button is not located on steering wheel! It is located on the combination switch mounted on steering column (red button visible in the first pic).

I am not a fan of the looks either. Ride quality is not great. BEST's Kinglongs have better suspension than this bus.

Final Verdict: It is definitely not worth the money. Volvo offers much more than this at approximately 30% less cost. I do not see any compelling reason to shell out 40 lakhs more than the Volvo for this bus.

A few more pics are here.

nice mini review there. The overall package is very dated. Sad to see such product offering by MBZ in India

Traveled in BEST's Mercedes Benz bus with Dad from Dadar T.T. to Bandra two days back. Its a really pleasant, less noisy & very much comfortable ride compared to BEST's Kinglon Cerita's & Tata Marcopolo's.
The AC is just chilling, seats are rather good than Kinglon Cerita's as well Tata Marcopolo's seats & last but not the least, the bus is getting very much attention by the public as well as many people who usually travel by luxury cars.

well, as MBZ, BMW, Audi are famous luxury marks in the Indian Auto Industry, maybe BEST can woo some new passengers by inducting some of these "Mercedes" buses in the fleet just because of the name.
