I dont think so..
Even if you select 3 if will certainly go to higher gears also.
These gears cannot be shifted during driving. it can be done only when the vehicle is stand still.
Depending upon the terrain condition ( steep gradient etc) the gear selection D1,D2,D3,D4 goes.

Dear Ashley,

During that journey, driver shifted from D to 3 while the bus was in motion. And immediately the bus downshifted from 5th to 3rd. Moreover, even from outside the bus, I have seen many drivers changing the position of the lever on the run.

From D it is possible to shift to 4, 3 and even 2 (in some vehicles) when in motion.

What AkMar states is correct. When 4 and 3 is selected its 1, 2, 3, & 4 and 1, 2 & 3 only respetively. Thess sets are ideally suited for "hilly" roads (more so the 3). Most of the manufacturers also set a lower top speed for this option.

Likewise in 2 usully the shift is between 1 & 2. 1 is the load gear and American Cars it used to be shown as L.

Ashley - you can shift between D & 3 anytime (Accord).

Check the owners mannual and it will show a lower top speed for 3 (which indicates that the 4 & 5 is not comming in to play in this mode).

So when you want to go above from 3, shift to D and the car will move to 4 and continue. You can see the rev counter drop down at that point whent it shifts from 3 to 4(especially if you are on Cruise control mode)

At least this is my understanding driving auto boxes both 4x4 and 2x2 for last several years.

Best Regards & Drive/Ride Safe

Ram

Default Vestibule bus

Good news...the Vestibule Bus and Double decker buses for KeralaSRTC is getting ready. AL has submitted the sample body paint/colour design to Ksrtc....but no sure which body builder is doing it! Sources indicate that it would be on road by Jan2011.

Hope the built quality would be better than the ones (AL ReSLF) supplied under JnNURM.

OMG!!!

Where in KL are the vestibule buses to be run??

Already, the SLFs are showing signs of meeting humble earth. The edges of overhangs - front and back are wrinkled!!! Quite a few have scratches / hit marks.

And still longer vestibule buses in chock-a-bloc bumper to bumper KL cities??

Its learned that AL would be delivering the "Titan" double decker buses to KeSRTC within a few weeks. And KeSRTC is planning to undertake a fesibility study to ply one of them in Fort Kochi - Ernakulam route.

Looks like Kochi is getting hot for KeSRTC. They traditionally ignored Kochi, but the focus has changed greatly now! Perhaps its the influence of the incumbent Transport Minister. Whatever, Kochi is getting its due now.

The old Globus of KeSRTC began its new innings as LS ordinary in Kollam-TVM Medical college, Kollam-Punalur routes. Saw RT 961 in Kollam-TVM Medical college route couple of days back. The ACs were removed, and the window glasses were replaced by sliding glass. It still has the Air-suspension system. So the "ordinary" passengers can enjoy "Air-Bus" travel in those routes now.

Those are not Globuses. The old AC buses (10 of them) were stripped down by KeSRTC Central Workshop - a couple of them were used as city buses in Trivandrum as well.

KeSRTC always thinks out of the box, and they are sure to come up with non-sense! These "redesigned" buses can carry 45 passengers, and virtually no standing passengers. KeSRTC is spending more money to carry less passengers.

This is an old habit of KSRTC. 3 decades ago, each bus in KSRTC used to go through 3 stages - start out as Fast Passengers, transform into ordinary inter-city buses (mofussil services) and finally descend to being a city bus in Trivandrum (since TVM was the only city which had KSRTC city bus services, unlike other cities which relied entirely on private bus fleets.

I think KeSRTC is getting more low floor Leyland buses as well. I saw 5-6 low floor Leyland buses going towards Kerala last week on NH7.
