I think that VOLVO is working at a strategy here. They are using the B9R for intra-city operations and have come out with an EICHER City Bus to compete with the MARCOPOLO. That way, they do not lose any customer just because of price

NMMT Vashi have started their service route 111 from Kalamboli to Mantralya/Hutatma Chowk (Flora Fountain). This route seems to be a hit especially in peak rush hours. BEST must soon launch their Volvo's on this route to compete with NMMT's as its a clear choice that commuters would definitely prefer a Volvo over the Kinglongs

Ahmedabad: Despite complaints by Ahmedabad Municipal Transport Service (AMTS) officials about the inferior quality of the buses, Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation (AMC) agreed to purchase buses from Tata Motors. But now the fear of AMTS officials has come true as almost all the buses supplied by Tata Motors are rusted.

Ahmedabad Janmarg Ltd, a special purpose vehicle floated by AMC for operation of bus rapid transit system (BRTS), purchases feeder buses and hands them over to AMTS for operation.

AMTS refused to accept 51 buses in early January as the company had failed to incorporate necessary changes in design suggested by AMC. Corrosion in the body of the buses was another reason why AMTS was unwilling to include the buses in its fleet.

AMTS officials recently inspected 141 buses supplied by Tata Motors and found almost all buses corroded, said an official.

Since parts of the buses are rusted it could affect the strength of the body of the buses, he added. Arjav Shah, transport manager of AMTS, confirmed the news and said they have written a letter to the company on the matter. "This is not enough. The company has not incorporated changes in design of the bus. Had the company as well as the authority consulted drivers while finalising designs, this problem would not have occurred," said a technician working with AMTS.

Even after lowering the height of the dashboard, vision is still not very clear on the right side making it difficult for drivers to drive the bus, he added. "The civic body has paid for the buses and now it is the responsibility of the company to correct the problem," said Shah.
It should be noted that the company had asked for a hike of Rs 3.5 lakh per bus after the purchase order was placed and the civic body had agreed to it. Bhupendra Patel, chairman of AMC's standing committee, had said they could not find any other company to supply buses as per their specifications and that they couldn't have waited longer.

Are these fully built buses from TM (Tata Marcopolo or ACGL)? If yes, how come there are no corrosion issues in other states?

No Idea about other states.
It could be case to case and need not for all products.

But here is some more news but not wrt rust but on frequent break downs of Marco's leading to withdrawal of service in Blore.

Less than three weeks after its full-fledged launch, the common bus system (CBS), meant to encourage techies to give up private vehicles, is proving to be a damp squib. It was launched as the logical next step in Bangalore Metropolitan Transport Corporation’s (BMTC) Bus Day initiative. However, techies from the Outer Ring Road Companies Association (ORRCA), who were the first to join hands with BMTC, are now disillusioned. The service was conceptualised by the 25-member ORRCA, comprising Intel, Accenture, Cisco, Subex and AOL, to decongest IT corridors. A pilot project was launched in February 2011 involving five Volvos plying on five routes and catering to two companies. Encouraged by the response, phase 2 was launched on August 1, and more than 1,000 IT employees joined. It covered 17 routes throughout the city.

Now, problems have cropped up. “There were five breakdowns in the last 15 days,” said Vishwanath Seetharam, general secretary, ORRCA. The breakdown involved five Marcopolo buses out of 12 used in CBS phase II.

Commuters are worried about the poor service despite shelling out in advance a sum of Rs 2250 per month on premium passes.

“We are paying Volvo charges to Marcopolo buses. This is only to encourage BMTC to help decongest Bangalore roads,” said a techie. “How can we trust BMTC service if it fails every now and then? We are not getting enough support from BMTC officials despite pleas to set things right. We will be left with no choice but to opt for private cars if such poor service continues.”

Because of the poor service, the ORRCA is thinking of introducing phase III of the service for other parts of the city including Mysore Road and Old Madras Road by involving private operators. However, BMTC top brass promised to improve the service.

“Any complaints of breakdowns will be addressed immediately,” SK Paramesh, Director (technical), BMTC said. “We will not let the service suffer. We will take steps to ensure the system goes smooth without any trouble to commuters.”

A new Government and a new paint scheme for Chennai's MTC buses. I recently read somewhere that the official color of MTC for the next 5 years is going to be 'green'. It seems somebody in Tamil Nadu's transport department misunderstood the meaning of 'going green'. Jokes apart, brand-new green-colored buses have started plying in Chennai and the color does look good in these. Here is a snap that I took near Kathipara.

Besides new buses, a whole lot of old buses too are being repainted in different shades of green.

Actually, the new buses are greener. They're BS4. There's a whole lot of inter-city buses based on BS4 AL 12M chassis too. I've been seeing a few of them here in Bangalore.

. Of late, I have also been seeing quite a lot of BSIV buses in both inter and intra-city routes. That statement was just said in a lighter vein.

There were few BSIV buses inducted earlier and they were with Blue only.
Of late even the new FC'ed MTC are also green only.
New AL 12M 's are not BS IV and they are BSIII only.

The reason being the Amma Fever caught IRT - SETC/MTC.

Default Mid Night Bus Fanning at CMBT

Normally we used to go to CMBT for having hot milk after we return from Movies or late night/early morning before going to sleep. This was taken at that time.
I felt as such these buses were sleeping, as the time was around 0300

Saw this in today's news paper about Patna and felt it was a great move to generate more mobility among women especially in this part of the country. BSRTC (Bihar State RTC) has introduced pink buses in specific routes and allows male passenger accompanying women to travel as well.
Pink transport brings cheer

The other picture in the news paper showed that it is a Marcopolo 32 seater bus. Also similar ones with a/c are being introduced in some of the routes as well. Great move again.

Only point of concern in another report which said that some of these buses are being converted back to normal services (males included) as the routes are proving uneconomical. Anyone having information on the ground can give us the right picture.
