They are LPO 1616 and not 1618. Total order will be around 600 (300 chassis and 300 fully built) and there may be an extension for another 150.
Total works out to 750.

How come the T logo missing in both new/old designs?

Not exactly related to the front wheels .. but:

I saw this on a Tata city bus in BLR. The bus is a very recent model. I am trying to figure what is that pipe there. I dont think it has anything to do with trying to inflate tyres on the go (like in defence vehicles).

It's for the TPMS data logging. You should've checked this thread

The red color buses have evoked complaints from the staff on BMTC Volvo's ! The Volvo's sport the same colors, and the staff on these buses feel that the new Tata buses in red have robbed them of their exclusivity !!
(Actually heard a conductor say this to a driver & co-passenger. I think she was feeling J )

Actually, the single head-lamp is sufficient for city routes. They dont need double headlamps like long distance buses do. The ones with double head-lamps often blind on-coming drivers, even if only low-beam is being used.

Regret for my earlier reply - this has no relevance to TPMS - the image was not clear. This is a remote air filling for rear inner tyre. Seen this in Kamaz tippers in Excon.

Sorry for the poor quality mobile cam pic

@Ashley - so is that just an extension tube to be able to reach the inner tyre to fill air ?

Jokes apart, brand-new green-colored buses have started plying in Chennai and the color does look good in these. Here is a snap that I took near Kathipara.

Besides new buses, a whole lot of old buses too are being repainted in different shades of green.
Basically all the new buses are the absolute bare bones basic ones, haven't seen anymore new semi low floor buses lately and the ones that are being painted are in a pretty miserable state despite being painted. I do sincerely hope that they purchase a few more Volvo's on any other AC buses at least.

The painting looks little weird. But anyway happy to see an ASHLEY ULE in BMTC fleet. Somewhere i read that BMTC is going to order hybrid electric buses from AL. Is that true?

Its not painting. They have wrapped the bus in this design (flex printed). The wrapping is looking awful - AshLey could have left it without the wraps! This bus is on trial with BMTC - it is owned by AshLey, not BMTC.

It seems that BMTC has ordered a couple of Diesel-Hybrid buses from AshLey - delivery expected in 8-10 month.
