This is how low BEST has stooped in terms of maintenance. Even after a fare hike of upto 65% for AC buses last month, this is the treatment meted out to the buses. Photos by a friend of mine.

There are at least 4 Kinglongs having glasses replaced by sheetmetal.

Anyone seen any other buses like that in other parts of the city?
I remember seeing such a Bus many years back in Bangalore. When asked Locals explained it is a Bus towards a Arts College IIRC. The students may have done the artwork.

BRTC of Bangladesh got first 50 Double Decker Buses from Ashok Leyland out of 290 Buses ordered.

Buses looks good. Are these Buses Ashok Leyland Titan? Which company did the coach work?

After a harsh email to BEST, and getting an article published in a leading newspaper (link to article), BEST has finally replaced the sheetmetal with glasses.

These buses look nice and feel a lot more safer than the Mumbai double deckers. Can we have some more pictures of the same please?

Agree... Visually, these buses look similar to the double deckers that run in Singapore and Hong Kong - with single windscreen for the front glass and similar style of body build. Doesnt seem to share anything with the Mumbai ones other than the red color.

New TATA marcopolo low floor a/c buses to be launched by KeSRTC in Kochi under the JNURM scheme. This was clicked at the Popular Mega Motors dealer in kalady near Kochi.

Oh, so the smoke emitting monsters that crawl at 20 kmph are ready to take Kochi by storm (literally by the volume of smoke they emit) and create havoc on the roads..

Seriously, I wonder the kind of reasoning behind ordering these buses which have been such a big flop in Bangalore leading to BMTC swiftly initiating replacement of the AC Marcopolo fleet with Coronas. Take one ride and you ll know how poor these are when compared to the volvos (or even Coronas as per friends who have travelled by Coronas) - all the parts of the bus rattle and make more noise than the horn, you can hear it squeaking within months of purchase, have extremely poor NVH levels, all windows vibrate and rattle; large gaps are visible even doors are closed leading to dust entering the bus and causing AC to be less effective.

I feel the only place where these buses do a decent job is at the airport (Mumbai / Delhi) where these steam engines ferry passengers to the planes from the terminal building.

This is not any new JnNURM bus for Kochi or KeSRTC. Its an old stock Marcopolo being sold to a private operator for Cochin Airport Tarmac service.

These buses are noisy and only the front few seats are ok to travel without much noise. They always struggle to run and A/c failure is common.

I am a regular on these Marcopolo buses and yesterday, the driver was complaining to passengers that the bus is not good when an angry lady passenger got off the bus saying that its not going fast.

Oh no!!! Why, oh, why??? The Marcopolo rattletraps set to invade Kochi too, after Bangalore? This is bad news.

I think somebody in KeSRTC has got "something" to do with TM. Already heard rumours that they're going to use TM buses for the Super Deluxe services, and there is an increasingly huge number of TM buses in the fleet. The state of the infamous Tata Globus buses is still not enough for KSRTC to learn a lesson or two.

No. They are not. I got it confirmed from the KeSRTC HQ. They have paid Volvo for the remaining lot of buses, and KeSRTC would be getting the remaining 14 buses (8 for Kochi and 6 for TVM. 4 buses mean for TVM has already reached their Central Workshop) shortly.

Those rumours are baseless, as it has turned out to be. The KeSRTC HQ has not yet issued a purchase order for the Chassis (meant for building Super Deluxe buses). In the last order, they bought 200 TATA buses v/s 300 Leylands. The ratio in the new one is yet to be seen.

However, the crew have made clear their displeasure over driving TATA buses for long routes.

Ive been noticing a white "Test Bus" doing the rounds in whitefield.. have seen it plying on Airport road and then going past forum value mall onto hope farm. Looked quite big and wider than the regular buses- was not too sure if it was the white stickering (all glasses and everything but the front windscreen) was covered.

As for the Marcopolo - the green ones plying around here - are quite terrible- i saw one near HAL going over a speed breaker and wheezing so much to get upto speed- it was downright pathetic.

That's reassuring! Yes, I know about the ratio of 200TM vs 300 AL. But many long-haul routes have TM buses which was not the case earlier.

If it's not for KSRTC, those Marcopolo LF buses in the Popular yard must be for export, is it? Or any operator wants to have a taste of those rattletraps?
