Saw an AL JanBus loaded on a flat-bed going towards Bangalore city, on Hosur road. Is the BMTC planning any trials?

Another member, urzdeepu posted a pic in FB, of a JanBus being unloaded at the AL yard in Kochi, Kerala:

Is this ALs model for JNNURM 2? Read in newspaper that Kerla will be getting 1000 buses, so AL might have started its ground work

Could be. AFAIK, Kerala would be getting only 400 buses in this lot. Maybe 1000 was proposed, but definitely not allotted.

The corporation will be incorporating some penalty clauses that would make it mandatory for the successful bidder to pay penalty for any structural or mechanical failures that the buses encounter during their operations.
This is being done in the light of the fact that the corporation had been financially hit by structural and mechanical failures that hit many of the 1,476 buses it had purchased earlier from Ashok Leyland and Tata Motors. It had acquired these buses under the first phase of the Jawaharlal Nehru National Urban Renewable Mission, with funding from the Union Government and the State Government.
“We have conveyed our dissatisfaction over these failures to the two bus makers and have given specifications for the new buses. We will still be incorporating the penalty clauses. Both the manufacturers are open to participate in the new tender,” A.K. Khan, Vice-chairman and Managing Director of the Corporation, told media persons here today.
This looks like an excuse to place the order with Eicher (VECIL). Eicher will be a big player in JNNURM II. If the guy is sincere, they should have included the AMC also part of the purchase deal, instead of asking to pay for penalty.

Here's the break-up of the allotment of JnNURM-II buses to Kerala:

Got it from Skyscraper City Forum.

Is it safe to assume that there will be 110 Low-entry Air-conditioned and 290 SLF Non-AC buses going to procured?

The non-AC ones seem to be Front engine ones this time - the document says 900mm. The non-ACs purchased last time (rear engine) was a disaster - poor mileage, lack of skilled manpower to maintain them and the poor quality of body.

Were we the only state to have gone for RE-SLF models in phase -I?

Except for those listed in Cluster-III, the rest of the places would be getting LF-AC buses, which I guess would be Volvo 8400s. With that, Kerala would have the most portion of the state serviced by Volvos...

I do remember seeing some pics of JnNURM Stickered Rear-engine buses for Jaipur (those were also Leylands, but with Azad body). Mysore got a few RE-SLF Marcopolos (non-AC). And, our Bengaluru too got Rear-engines (the breakdown specialist hot-air ovens called "AC Suvarna").

How's the performance of the Non-AC RE-SLF in these areas?

On Tuesday, the brand new buses were parked at the Institute of Road Transport in Taramani, as there was no space in other depots. The words ‘Small Bus’ are inscribed on the light green vehicles, and there are leaves painted on them.

“The footboard is lower in the mini buses than on the regular ones. This is to help senior citizens and children board the buses easily,” said the source.

Which make and model are these mini-buses?

Those are I believe all Ashok Leylands, I'm sure they're one of their minibus models though that have gotten the regular bus facia.

The Minibuses are TATA 712s, not Leylands.

50 hybrid buses kindle green hope for Bangalore

A fleet of green buses will soon hit Bangalore roads. Bangalore Metropolitan Transportation Corporation (BMTC) claims its 50 hybrid diesel-electric buses will be a first in the country. The buses will save 30% on diesel and also reduce harmful emissions.

The bus can travel up to 280km, for 6-8 hours, on a full battery.

The eco-friendly hybrid buses will be equipped with air-conditioners and cost between Rs 1.2 and Rs 1.3 crore each. The Union government is providing these buses to BMTC under the Jawaharlal Nehru National Urban Renewal Mission (JnNURM).

Anjum said a tender will be floated for the project.
The utility also plans to introduce an electric bus on a trial basis, within a year.

What's it going to be - the AshLey diesel hybrid, or the TM hybrid, or Volvo 7700?

Like binaiks said, those are Tata 712s with Karur bodies. I read that the next batch of 50 buses will be from Ashok Leyland

Chennai:
Taken today near Kaliappa Hospital (Now Billroth Hospital). I saw 2 buses & they has a sign 'On Test' in yellow on the windscreen. (See the second pic)

I'm sorry for the poor quality pics. I had *JUST* started to engine to drive away when I saw them. I immediately thought of this thread & scrambled to find my phone.
