The actual reason was to have a flat floor and lower floor height. Hence two smaller wheels at the front than one big wheel.

For those who are interested in private buses. Buses in Northern part of the state have a totally different type of body compared to those in the south. Here are two examples:

1. First is Krishna, a Guruvayur-Ernakulam Limited Stop Fast Passenger. This is the typical North Kerala body, with glass windows and a colorful paint job

2. Next is St. George, a Kanjirapally-Ernakulam Limited Stop. Typical south Kerala design with shutters instead of sliding glass windows and a less colorful but more bold paint job. This is also known as Kondody body

Are all such designs built by Kondody or are there other builders doing the same design?

I Liked the Conservative Looking St.George Bus's Body.Similar to KMS,Paika?

But, I think Some Buses Operating from Kottayam,Pathanamthitta,Idukki Districts are Having Bodies Built in Madhura,TN. Robin Bus Operating between Mundakkayam-Ernakulam(via Kakkanad) comes to My Mind.

I've Observed Buses from Kothamangalam,Thodupuzha Also has this "Colourful" Livery(For eg: "Souparnika" between Thodupuzha-Muvattupuzha) Albeit Not Extreme/Bold Livery Like Thrissur-Malabar Buses.

The body of Krishna is better the paint job sucks big time. I hate to see elephants and tigers and butterflies on busbody.

A friend of mine had traveled in one of the Mercedes buses when it was on trial run last year. The bus used to run from Bangalore to Chikmagalur on trial basis. He said, the ride was a bit harsher than the Volvo and was a bit sluggish.

I'll definitely vouch for the sluggish part, having seen it move from the outside, some months ago. I remember it was making a lot of noise that was disproportionate to the speed it was pushing! Volvos still rock.

Its the same with VDL and Solaris made Merc coaches in Dubai. Sounds as if they are running on 1st when they should be on 3rd or 4th.
