Awesome snaps binaiks. The first snap is one I have been waiting for years. A Mercedes and a Volvo Muti-axle together side by side in one shot. Great picture. I really appreciate your efforts that have gone into it.

Excellent pics binaiks!

A small query: Why does the Volvo multi-axle has its trailing axle (single wheel) at the front whereas the Mercedes multi-axle has its trailing axle (single wheel) at the back of the main axle?

Super shots of the two white giants. KaSRTC is going great guns (touch wood) with their A/c service. Apparently there is a huge demand in the Blr-Kerala (multi city) as all the seats in every type of bus generally goes full. So their 3 serivces will have a lot of takers for sure. Added to it the convenience of internet booking I am sure the tickets will get lapped up as quickly as the railway!

I had a quick thought, there are some old Volvo coaches with KaSRTC (first introductions) which they were planning to scrap (read some where subject to correction), why not refurbish and convert them to sleeper coaches. Any way they would not lose a lot even if the service duds but IMO they will work as well on very high demand routes like Kerala.

Hopefully, you can see these buses with Sangita Travels soon

Yeah! And that too, with double or triple the normal fares prevalent in a route

Getting a decent bus with Sangita is pure luck. Getting to travel in the kind of bus that we booked is even more luck. If you reached your destination on time, then you're so lucky that day that you will win a jackpot if you go to a casino

KaSRTC extracts upto the last drop of energy from the engine - the old buses are hell to travel in. The engine mounts are totally worn out, and the bus vibrates badly. I don't think the bus would be running condition when KaSRTC scraps them. When they have brand new Coronas running as Sleepers, why would they worry converting their old buses to Sleepers?

Sangita are out to lap up any old bus that comes to the market! Kallada G4 sold their old buses, Sangita lapped it up. Southern sold their bus, Sangita too it. Despite such a bad reputation, wonder how they manage to survive in the market.

Sangita is the last resort for people who know about their buses. I have even seen their 3 buses broke down between Chennai and Bangalore on a single day. That too by paying exorbitant fares.

That is exactly what I found in an article today -
KSRTC to

It was a thought of trying out such a combination Volvo + Sleeper as it may not be economically viable for a new bus in this configuration (correct me if I am wrong) since I have not seen any Volvo sleeper till date ( some one can throw more light if any)

Knowing about such operators is good for people like us especially who frequent Chennai - Blr. Till now have mostly traveled in KaSRTC and KPN

There are lots of operators running Volvo sleepers. Sharma, Paulo, Neeta, Konduskar, to name a few. Except Neeta, I believe all the other operators are running refurbished buses - I mean old seater Volvos now converted to sleeper. Paulo was reportedly the first to introduce a Sleeper Volvo.

But I think its better to get custom built Sleeper buses than convert old Volvos - since these Volvos were built to seater configurations, their floor height would be high, and having sleeper configuration in it would mean a very claustrophobic atmosphere.

BiNaiks,

Looking at KSTRC's multi-axle Airavats, feel the Merc is a bit alt-modish compared to the Volvo. The Volvo looks more refined - personally.
Definitely they need to look at the paint job, the earlier paint scheme was more sharp

This very long bus is of the UFO Bus service operating in the Ernakulam Kumily route. See the overhang of this TATA bus. How it negotiates the high range route is surprising.

This is LPO 1618.
How many such buses are owned by this group?

There is no legislation available in CMVR to get certification for sleeper coaches! These legislation's are under development and soon or later we can see them included in CMVR.
As of now no body is building new Sleeper coaches except Corona.
Corona does a dual billing. The chassis is billed separately and Coach after building is done separately. This is in similar note to chassis made by AL/TM and body built by SMK/Veera Vahana.

KPN also has converted some of their Volvos to sleeper. This is running in CBE route.

Binai, do you remember a GeePee Volvo sleeper between Ernakulam & Bangalore? It was a new bus starting from Ensign but lasted for a short period only.
