A rare catch ALL RE bus built by Irizar TVS. The bus had TN45 registration and belonged to SBT travels.

MSRTC still builds their own buses. Only the semi luxury buses are built from outside (ACGL/Antony). The mini buses are procured fully built from Tata.

Read a news item in a tamil news daily about the plan for hike in permit rate for omni buses. I know that it is decided based on the number of seats. Can someone tell me what is the present permit rate in TN and other South Indian states?

Below is what TN is planning to do.
For 1 week permit, it will be Rs.600/Seat, for a month, it will be Rs.1500/Seat and for 3 months it will be Rs.3500/Seat

To an extent I have given details:

TN - Rs.3000/seat/qtr
AP - Rs.3700/seat/qtr
KA - Rs.3500/seat/qtr (may be revised now)
MH - ~Rs1400/berth/qtr

Some states like KL, MH, KA do give tourist bus permit which is used for intercity application.

Happy to see that the windows dont have grills that rattle like crazy. Are they not a requirement?

There are many such requirements that are not seen here.
Only Bus body code should insist all these when implemented.

What exactly is "Omni buses on contract basis"(from the news link, translated). Does this refer to the regular travels buses?

KSRTCs AC experiment flopped

CAG terms the induction of Mayura air-conditioned buses between 2004 and 2006 as wasteful expenditure

The Comptroller and Auditor General (CAG) of India,in its report termed induction of Mayura airconditioned buses by the corporation between 2004 to 2006 as wasteful expenditure. The corporation had built 50 odd air-conditioned buses without any plan. They converted an ordinary bus into an air-conditioned one by just installing air-conditioners.The officials received poor response from the general public.Theses buses have now been dismantled and dumped, causing a loss of more 3 crore of public money.
The CAG report states that the corporation had procured regular chassis fitted with engines. As the power of these engines was not sufficient to drive the AC systems, the corporation had to procure auxiliary engines, besides the AC,for the Mayura buses. The total cost incurred on procurement of auxiliary engines and air-conditioners was 2.76 crore.
Later,it was found that the duct built inside the bus was fraught with problems. But it did not stop officials from operating these buses. It is said that KSRTC operated buses on the BangaloreMysore route. When it received a poor response from commuters, the senior divisional controller (SDC) had reported technical snags to the higher-ups,including slow start of auxiliary engines, weak batteries and nonworking of the hourly meters. The SDC had also cautioned that there could be numerous complaints that could have an adverse impact on the organisation.
Surprisingly,in the year 2005,the higher-ups in the organisation ordered for 31 more ACs and auxiliary engines despite the poor response from commuters.

I recently traveled by bus between Pune & Goa. I noticed that all buses(different tour operators & different make of bus/engine) are left to idle at intermediate halts and even at their starting/boarding point.
Does anyone know reason behind such practice?

Sorry state of Barathi's Volvo. Though the final painting is yet to be done, the quality of work is very bad.

I am not sure this is the original registration number.

Bharathi on "Sangitha" way? It must be a re-registered one.

Edit: Is this Nagarcoil registration?

I doubt this is a re-registered bus because I have seen a TN73 registered Bharathi volvo about 6 months back. Incidentally TN73 is Ranipet RTO.

I have seen similar Bharathi Volvo in Madurai once. Let me try to take a pic if i see that next time.

Old Volvos from HKB, Kallada, Bharathi are being operated by some local travels after purchasing them as second hand. Some are registered under TN45, 58 etc.,

Ranipet is the native town of Bharathi Travels. They are primarily a moffussil and city bus operator diversified into Intercity operator later. A good mixed fleet of Volvo and Merc.
But no idea about this particular one!
