@BHPians: Wanted to know if any has had an experience with the Volvo services started in the state of Bihar. Am to take a road trip from Patna to Jamshedpur via Ranchi. Please provide any information on road/bus condition.

Any known web-site for ticket bookings and other details would be of help.

Hi Jimmy, are they a (Cochin Travels) recent entrant to the eranakulam-kumali route? I was regular traveler in eranakulam-kumali route around 9 years back, but I do not remember seeing any services by Cochin Travels.

I remember Mubarak, Pournami, ST.George Motors, Kondody, UFO, Comrade, KMS, EBT etc, but do not remember seeing any Cochin Travels buses.

I was regular in Gurudeva (eranakulam-Mundakkayam-) and Thusharam.

PS: Thank you for posting the pictures of various buses - I am really enjoying them.

The B11R model that KaSRTC has been offered for trials has different type of headlamps. Here we see regular B7R/B9R headlamps. So then do we have two versions-LX and VX?

Volvo buses are entirely customisable. The product depends on the options the customer chooses in the spec sheet. The HID lamps will not be offered as a standard fitting by Volvo due to certain ARAI homologation issues, but they would be offering it as an optional accessory in limited number of vehicles.

The customer can even choose not to have a separate driver door, or an openable window on the passenger side door, or a windshield in the back, and so on.

HID if objected by ARAI, cant be offered by Volvo by any means, even as an option. Also for other changes like driver door option Volvo should be having approval.

Saw this bus in Chennai today and was deceived into thinking it was a Volvo B7R! Only when I overtook I realised it was a AL with Azad body. Checked out their web site and realised it was KK travels, Chennai - Keelakarai service. Does Volvo authorise other body builders copying its design? To be honest, I liked it, being an AL fan.

Couldn't click pictures, so posting a couple from their gallery. The in-built toilet looks interesting.

Volvo does'nt give copyrights to body builders and same way it cant claim all its their design. If you watch closely there will be difference and so legally they are not liable.

Even in cars, where there is a very close similarity, the case was not so strong. There are lots of copy cats of this kind from China.

I found this bus parked near my house on the Thrissur - Shoranur Highway SH21. It's been there for two days now. Is this really a Merc ?

@Jimmyjosek, i have seen most of these pics uploaded in flicker, and if you are a different persion, pls give the pic credit to original uploader.

Some of the biggest operators in malabar, that I know of

I still remeber travelling in Geetha's KLF 9516 Kannur-Koothupraramb-Vengad servive as a 5 th std kid

Shajee Motors is another big operator

Some of the biggies, who are part of the history now -

- Anandha Krishna Bus Services (AKBS who had the monopoly of Kannur - Kasaragod service, may be 20 years back)

- Center Motors (First one to introduce a Koothuparamba - Kasaragod Service)

- Haridas Transports
- Lakshmi
- Seena Roadways
