Nice eyes on the Seena bug
With the ban on sun film, curtains etc, there is no impact on the opaque window sliders that are usually used in Kerala buses?

When the driver feels the headlamps don't light up the road to his satisfaction... I've heard of aux lamps (that are fitted on the bumper) getting stolen, so, maybe they fixed these lamps inside to prevent that from happening.

Looks like many seasonal operators and some regular operators in TN started increasing the fares without any limits. Just noticed an operator named MRM Travels charging Rs.3000 for their Non AC bus in Chennai-Coimbatore route for their today's trip.

Blame it on the Sankranti/Pongal rush.
Today evening, in Hyderabad, there will be an exodus of sorts with people heading out to all directions in AP. APSRTC buses heading out to Vijayawada, Vizag, places in east & West Godavari, Ongole, Nellore, Tirupati and pretty much any place in AP, are running full. In fact the APSRTC Online website states that all the Ongole & Nellore bound buses would start from Old CBS bus stand, Kareemnagar, Nizamabad bound buses would start from Jubilee Bus Stand.

Of course, private operators are making the most of out this. Tickets to Vijayawada are now costing Rs 2500/- (A/C Sleeper & Multi Axle Semi Sleeper) on some buses. Non A/C buses are charging Rs 1000/-. APSRTC would definetely put in the Metro Express on the Hyderabad Vijayawada route, and even that is bound to go full.

We have TNSTCs operated 5612 special buses to various parts of TN from Chennai and other important cities for Pongal(From 11-Jan-13 to 16-Jan-13).

Happened to see that Hindusthan is operating two Non AC Sleeper buses in Bangalore-Coimbatore route as SPL with Rs.685 as fare. Still 31 seats are available in these two buses.

Thanks Jimmy. The pic of Seena brought back many of my old memories.
Sad to know that Shajee is out of now.

This may seem a little off topic but I couldn't find a related forum.
TNSTC the STU of Tamilnadu seems to be in a deep financial mess.
The attached pictures are those of 7 TNSTC buses impounded at a Sub Court in Dharapuram a small town near Tirupur.
These buses are awaiting auction by the court because TNSTC has failed to pay due compensation to victims of road traffic accidents involving its buses. If the Dharapuram court alone is owed Rs50 lakhs then the sum owed by TNSTC all over Tamilnadu must be astronomical.
This fact also begs questionability of safety and quality of services (these have deteriorated noticeably in the past few years).
Now who is going to be responsible for this mess? TNSTC officials or their political masters or the people who seem content with any crap that is doled out to them.

Actually none of the buses in TNSTC(for that matter any Govt. owned vehciles, except the newly bought one) will have insurance. They are exempted from paying insurance. Any claim to third party should be routed through court only.

Sad to see so many buses standing in Dharapuram court. It looks like a mini TNSTC depot. Few years back, around 10 SLFs were standing inside Madurai district court for non payment of relief claims. Later TNSTC-Madurai paid the required amount and they were taken out of court. After that i incident i havent seen many such incidents in Madurai.

Except MTC's Volvo buses, none of the TNSTC and SETC buses have the insurance. Present government allotted some funds to settle these claims and many buses were taken out from court.

Sometimes, i have seen court ordering the officials to park these attached vehicles inside the depots with proper markings.

Are you sure Volvo has insurance? why so they should buy only for Volvo?

Yes, I'm sure that Volvo buses of MTC are insured. I have seen tenders from MTC for insurance renewal for 100 Volvo buses. Some details from the tender.

Total No.of Buses - Existing policy expiry dt. - New policy w.e.f.
20 Buses -10.11.2012 - 11.11.2012
10 Buses - 23.11.2012 - 24.11.2012
10 Buses - 10.12.2012 - 11.12.2012
20 Buses - 05.01.2013 - 06.01.2013
10 Buses - 11.01.2013 - 12.01.2013
20 Buses - 20.04.2013 - 21.04.2013
10 Buses - 13.08.2013 - 14.08.2013
------
Forgot to mention this. Even the 30 Volvo buses from TNSTC-Villupuram should have the insurance by now. I have seen tenders from TNSTC-Villupuram for providing insurance to these 30 Volvo buses.

That must be because the Volvos cost the sky. So the primary purpose of insuring them must be to cover "Own Damage" and Third party comes along with the policy compulsorily. Also TNSTC cannot be tinkering around with the Volvos in its run down workshops the way it does with the Aam aadmi AL s and TMLs. ;-) and getting them repaired after minor accidents itself must be costing a bomb. It makes sense now I guess.

Very true! +1 to that.

I recently read in a Tamil daily that the SETC's debt stands to the tune of Rs. 5700 crores! There are not enough drivers and mechanics to drive and maintain the buses. SETC recently launched the much touted 7 C courier service to offset some of that financial crisis. Empty buses packed with courier parcels seem like a good idea but how will depot to depot courier service be of any value will be seen in the coming months.
