Re: Chevrolet Beat DIY - Unlocking Features in the Speedo console

Just when I have been thinking , there haven't been any DIY's lately on the forum, this DIY pops out.

Fantastic work, done by you folks.

The long forgotten BEAT, is now in the news again.

Hi Salbin, thanks a lot for reviving interest of members in Beat, have a question to you, the front console is only press fit right without any screws? I have tried couple of times to remove it but it is too tight to pull and remove, same with the door panels. Thanks.

Go go go Salbin !!
The stock HU is of Blaupunkt. May be you could stumble upon the much needed Bluetooth functionality. But for that, tweaking of HU may be required.
I won't bug you much with my stupid ideas.
Will wait for your next update !!

@deehunk:
It is push fit only.
But removal is a bit tricky.
You need to be careful while doing this, otherwise will break the cover or damage the edge of plastic cover.

@soumyajit:
Need your documentation skills for the HU removal too

Re: Chevrolet Beat DIY - Unlocking Features in the Speedo console

Fantastic work Salbin! Would be killer if we figured a way to use a remote and bluetooth with the HU. And a long shot would be to find a compatible replacement HU with better audio settings.

I love DIY

Hey Salbin,

Received the switch much earlier than expected.

What a packing? It cannot be better than this.

Re: Chevrolet Beat DIY - Unlocking Features in the Speedo console

Excellent write-up Soumya. Very detailed and well put together. Chevy not giving the features as standard just goes to show the attitude of the American auto manufacturers have towards the Indian consumer market.
I have already got my buddy agreed to try this on his Beat next weekend. Hopefully everything goes as planned. I will bug you if required.

Re: Chevrolet Beat DIY - Unlocking Features in the Speedo console

Excellent work Salbin and Soumyajit. Like other members said, it would worth watching reaction of GM India team. Unable to understand the logic behind hiding these useful features. More importantly they require zero investment. I am sure the Service Adviser or Technicians in dealership will definitely ask about those additional details on the instrument console.

Further updates on HU:
@ Soumyajit: The HU is not from Blaupunkt.
It is from Daewoo! (mine is 2010 model - not sure about the latest ones)
There is a 14 pin open port @ right side of the HU, which is un-used.
It could be for any of the following:
- CD changer connectivity
- Steering mounted controls
- Bluetooth (chances are less)
But the LCD display is having bluetooth "B" logo, when looked from side. may be it could be hidden like our trip computers.

Here are some pics:
Rear side of HU: just 2 connectors - one combination connector to vehicle wiring harness and antena connector.

This is the 14 pin connector port, I had mentioned earlier.
Need inputs from ICE Gurus to identify the purpose of this connector.

Top of HU is having a sticker mentioning Daewoo IS Corp.
Also note the pin legends - highlighted ones for the remote control??
Need inputs from ICE Gurus.

Anyone using this MapmyIndia AVN-R for Chevrolet Beat?

MMI is giving huge offer only for Beat Custom-Fit 2-Din OE Systems - any reason? Rs. 18K - almost 55% discount!

Sounds like a fantastic deal and finally we have some options for ICEing the LT version. Wonder what color those backlit buttons on the MapMyIndia HU is? If its not blue, it would look pretty out of place.

That said, I found this interesting

You can buy a 2DIN fascia and I guess we should be able to put a new HU in place then. Anyone tried?

Re: Chevrolet Beat DIY - Unlocking Features in the Speedo console

Hi,

Very impressed with the DIY. Hats off to you people for daring to explore the various hidden features of our very beloved Beat.

Inspired by you and this thread, I managed to open the meter console of my Chevy Beat (Tcdi: LT Version: Jan 2012). I did solder the tact switch as mentioned in this thread but nothing has happened. No distance to empty signal, no avg speed or Outside temp signal as well.

I dont know what to do next. I tried every possibility to it and even tried different tact switches but it all went in vain.

Any help will be much appreciated.
Thanks guys.

Regards,
Shubham
