how to select the right enclousure for the sub we buy.
1. Does it depends on the availability of space in the car.
2. Depends on SPL level required.
3.Depends on the amplifier and the woofer selected.

all of the above, the T/S parameters of the sub and bit of expereince!

Ya, it depends on all the factors that u listed. Moreover, the proper size of box for the subwoofers is also specified on the box.
It would generally recemmond different size for different types of enclosuers like sealed/ported/bandpass etc..

I guess it largely depends upon the boot space the owner of the car can give and amount of bass he needs - depending upon these factors one can decide upon the brand of sub looking into the technical specifications offered by the company then we carry on to decide to either use an sealed/ported/bandpass box and also match the amplifier to get the desired output.

So with these I like to say each brand has its own place......

Sorry but I'm a little lost here. What is this thread about? Is it a question or a philosophical look at sub enclosures?

I beleive boot space should be the last factor which should influence the type of subw with enclosure.Ideally type of subw and type of bass and not amount which should determine the type/size of enclousre.

I also have been mulling over this question.
On a baleno Vxi, pre-fitted stereo, I would like to fit a powered s/w. However I don't want to tinker with the rear shelf if I can help it. I was thinking of a Sumoku placed in the boot, but how to get the sound into the cabin area?

I have Sumoku S/W in my Esteem placed in the Boot. I have no probes in getting the sound in my cabin area. Gives you a very descent sound

you dont need to worry about how to get the sound inside the cabin as the bass can travel through the seats etc. my suggestion is that you can try positioning it where you get the best out of your sub. in my car the subs are placed facing the bootlid. i tried different placements but this was the best placement in my case (hyundai Accent CRDI). i dont know about the placement of bass tubes though. BTW what type of sub encl are you talking about and let me know the specs as im planning to install a powered sub in my other car.

I'm planning to go for 4-12 JBL sub wht wud be the box requirements to get very good quality of sound .. i listen to lots of HOUSE music .. any suggestions?

No MF, the JBL subs model number is GT 4-12.
