| BHPian | hey guys! Im thinking of getting a used Palio..kinda decided on it.. Will be changing the whole ICE inside... since I already have an 80 gb ipod video and i HATE FM..i think going in for a cd player would be waste of money.. Is it possible just to get speakers and an amp and connect the ipod to the amp directly?? |

| Distinguished - BHPian ![]() | Yes it is possible to do so, but 1) You will have no tone controls (Bass, treble, loudness, eq) 2) You will have no balance or fader controls 3) You will be forced to amplify each speaker (HU's have amps) What is your objective? If it is to have only 4 speakers connected to your iPod, you may find buying a HU with aux in, more economic than buying an amplifier and settling for no fader, balance, bass treble etc.

| BHPian | I guess Sam is right. Get a decent HU (JVC would be real cheap and has an Aux in) and 4 speakers of your choice and your job will be done(this is what i had one previously). If you can spend a lil more then get Pio 6950 with a ipod dock cable and all your ipod controls are on the hu/hu remote(this is what i have done now)

1. Wouldn't the Ipod have tone controls & equalisers ? 2. The balance is hardly ever used. Is it that important ?

| BHPian | hey guys..thnx a ton fr the posts...dont know why getting a HU just for the sake of plugging in the iPod seems like a waste of money..as esteem_lover said, balance is not much of use..and there's already an equalizer in the pod... @Sam...cant a single amp be used for all speakers? |

| Distinguished - BHPian ![]() | Well, You can do this. Get a 4 channel amplifier, this will allow you seperate gain of front and rear speakers. And a splitter. You will need to break up the iPod signal for front and rear. Just get a Y-cable. Technically, it will work.

| BHPian | it's very difficult to change anything (including the volume ) on the ipod while driving... Just get a basic HU Like the Pioneer 2950 with a front Aux in ...it's less than 4K in the gray market which is cheaper than any amp you can get Anyway, Just for the volume control, it's worth getting a HU and not an Amp |
