| BHPian | I read somewhere that adding an AUX-IN port to HUs which do not have AUX-IN is a simple procedure that any electronic technician could do. I want to know the opinions of Gurus here, if that can be done on Alpine HUs like 9873E. It would be of great help to us. I even know a person who said that Alpine service technicians do this for Rs.800 (probably unofficially ![]() Are there any risks involved? The warranty would go void for sure though! |

| BHPian | hi gopz, i think u have decided not to part with ur new Alpine ![]() well,.. yes it is possible and i'm using one on my super-grand old Alpine that can play only a Cass player and the AM-FM radio (Model #: TDA - someblahblah) the "Cassette adaptor" option did not work with this piece as the cass player kept doing the auto reverse again and again in the auto reverse mode and did not work in the single direction play mode. neither did the KCA-121B adaptor work, as this piece does not support telephone input. as my set was worth nothing, i did not bother to meddle around (of course i have some expertise on electronics earlier). all i did was trace to a point where the cass player's head's signal gets out of its pre-amp section and enters the digi amp section. i used an old LR discrete volume control in series before injecting the AUX signal at that point. this helps in controlling clipping to a great extent. disadvantages: - no control over a "jugalbandhi" performance when a cass is playing and an AUX signal is sent. it may even conk out the amp - signals from the AUX playing MP3s with unbalanced amplitude sometimes clip the HU's amplifier. this was just a boring sunday evening's project. but no idea how much heart you will have to do this to your new Alpine possibly much simpler on a newer Circuits

| Hey L_B_M, this a question going along the lines of gopz. I have the OEM Kenwood HU that comes factory fitted with Esteem VXi. Now I wanna listen the songs I have on my Ipod on the same. One option I have tried is using the ITrip FM transmitter, but the sound quality with this approach ain't good. So is there any other option for hooking my IPod to the HU? I ain't sure if my HU supports Aux In as of now?

| Distinguished - BHPian ![]() | Oh I've heard of a few people that do this. What they do is that they connect an audio point to the audio switcher IC, at the point where the AM circuit pre is given to the switching IC. The AM is disconnected (A simple track cut) and the pre put is injected straight in there. You won't need a pot to be connected in series, simply because you will be using the headphone out and your MP3 player volume can be lowered to prevent clipping. It can be done by a good technician/ engineer. You WILL void your warranty though.
