Default DIY Started, surprising result - will continue

Hi all,
After a lot of research and ofc 100% TBHP inspiration and help, I started my first ICE DIY. Today I have replaced the fake damn power cables of my Blau PA275 amp which is powering my Blau GTb1200 sub box. The result is amazing.

The sub is performing as if it has got a new life. Exactly like someone was strangling it's neck till now and released it. I had to change some setting of my HU to make the sub calm down . I think I have now to play with gain control too (decrease a little bit and set it properly). For those who are using fake cable (boss,.. etc) please burn that stuff and go for a good real cable.

Items used - Finolex 16 sqmm (8ga) wire, 3m for power, 0.75 m for grnd. Copper leg and connectors. Plier and hammer for leg fixing. Time took was 2hrs and 30 mins. Grnd is connected to seatbelt bolt. Some pics of cables tools here. See the "8 Guage Power Cable" written on that and compare it with the real 8 ga cable .

Waiting for other components to come to start remaining work.

Thanks Gunbir, and thanks all. Yeah planning the Big3 too. But the very next thing is my second amp which is powering comps. Let me see if I can complete that tomorrow.

Default Completed amp #2

Today morning I completed power cabling of amp # 2, JBL GT5-A402, which is powering my JBL GTO607C comps. Like yesterday, today also I got blessed with a good result and neat, powerful output. I had to adjust the gain a little lower to match my rear co-axs (driven by HU) to sound as fillers. With initial setting, at first front sounded very high. That proves with adequate cable, amp get more juice and need little effort to push its power. Items used are exactly same, finolex 8ga cable - 3m for power and .5m for grnd.

One funny thing happened which made me panic for a while. The front comps wer not playing just after the install and powered on the system. I checkd the amp, light was glowing, protection was switching to power LED in 2-3 seconds as normal and all other cables (RCA, speaker out) were fine. Then my finger accidently touched the HPF-FlatLPF selector and everything was back. The selector switch was stuck somewhere between two settings and output was cut. Here are some pics.

One question though : Is 16 sq mm = 8 AWG ? I thought it was 10 sq mm.

You are right. 16 mm sq is actually 6 AWG and 10 mm sq is 8 AWG. Thanks for pointing this. But I think local electricians and electrical shop guys refer it their own . Whatever it is I planned for 16 sq mm wires and did it (never bothered the AWG as mm sq is what matters here in India). I think for the comp amp even 8 AWG (10 mm sq) will work too. Plan accordingly to your amp power / capacity etc. LBM and Sam has given a detailed explanation on this in another thread which i referred a lot (http://www.team-bhp.com/forum/diy-do...ick-wires.html (So.... why do we need those thick wires??)).

Fantastic job, Jay! We can almost hear the improvement by your description. Keep up the good work, it is inspirational / instructional for many.

BTW, is "leg" related to "lug" the same way as "Gelf" is related to "Gulf"? (Apologies, please don't be offended, I'm just pulling your "lug")

Thanks DerAlte and all. I got inspired and instructed from Tbhp only (many thanks to you Gurus) and thought would share the same in return.

Hahaha . Thaks for correcting me. Yes what I meant is lug wonleeee

Now I really feel the need of damping. Waiting for my kit to arrive (RCAs, speaker wires and damping for front doors). Next DIY will start soon, keep watching guys.
