| Senior - BHPian | well i had to remove the door pads to clean them up properly after all the ICE water mix up woes and i just thought i would do this! take a look at the following linky for the mix up and below are the DIY PICS of cosmetic changes i decided to make. http://www.team-bhp.com/forum/ask-gu...xes-water.html (When ICE mixes with water!!!) i have used a spray paint brand called plasti-kote shade is burnished silver, to paint and an all purpose cleaning fluid called awesome, the other bottle is just used as a spray it had tyre shiner previously. removing the pads took me a good 30 minutes, then washing these using that cleaning fluid took me 30 minutes for each pad as the instructions were that i spray on the diluted fluid and leave it for 15 mins and then scrub i did it two times. so 2 hours there. then i dried it using tissues wiped them clean under the fan, after that i used the paper tape and news paper to cover up the paint free areas and sprayed it on!!! i had to leave it to dry for next 20 mins so for each pad it took me around 45mins to 1 and a half hours, it took that extra for the rear pads as i had to do the same for the speaker ring painting! so the painting took me like 4.5-5 hrs. now i need to fix them on in the car and need to do more spraying before that so wait for the pics. all of this was done in 2 days time, i need 2 more days to complete every thing i intend to do in the cabin and fix the pads so wait for more. ![]() |

| Senior - BHPian | thanks guys thanks for all the encouragement, had it not been for Tbhp this wouldnt have been possible, @vikram D well yes we see a lot of guys getting in to the DIY these day the inspiration from you know where and all the free time at home i rather do this my self for that sense of self satisfaction than get it done. @abhi1309 thanks for the compliments. @phamilyman i will be happy to help when i have the free time. EDIT: here is for the break of the cost, two cans of that paint 200X2=400; that awesome cleaner is 111.5bucks; water to wash them out; the paper tape each role is like 20bucks so 20X2=40 and the rest is labour!!! this is a DIY so thats free. | Fantastic, @rider60! A lot of people will take inspiration from you. A coat of a clear lacquer on top of the paint would prevent normal wear and tear from chipping the paint.

Clear coat is a paint (urethane lacquer) as opposed to terpentine or synthetic thinner, which is used to dilute the paint to the right spraying / brushing consistency. If you ask at a good automotive paint shop, they will be able to tell you a brand. It is expected to be similar to "Touch Wood" or "Apcolite Clear" synthetic 'varnish'.
